What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I think it's the moment something clicks. When I tutored SAT Maths, there was a session where a concept just didn't land for weeks, and then suddenly it did, and you could see it on their face. That's honestly an addictive feeling.
I also just enjoy explaining things. I do it constantly, translating documents, breaking down markets in my finance internship, helping film society members understand why a particular film matters. Tutoring is that same instinct, but with a much clearer feedback loop: you get to watch someone go from stuck to confident in real time.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My biggest strength as a tutor is diagnosing where a student actually is and adjusting to that, rather than running a generic script. THis is something I built through 1,000+ IELTS assessments where I had to size up someone's level quickly and give specific, useful feedback. That same instinct showed up when I tutored a student through SAT Maths: identifying exactly which weak spots were costing the most points let us take them from 1200 to 1270 in just five weeks. And most importantly, I love teaching and enjoy the subjects I'll be tutoring!
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The best thing a tutor can do is making a student feel cared for, and being able to delivered personalized lessons to help students reach their personal goals.
I also think small wins matter more than big lectures. If a student's disengaged, I'll break a topic into something they can nail in ten minutes, so they leave feeling capable instead of behind. That momentum does more for motivation than any pep talk. And honestly, showing genuine interest in how they're doing, and not just the subject, usually gets someone to open up about why they've checked out in the first place.
