What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy tutoring because I understand what it is like to struggle to understand concepts and sympathise with those who may not have extra assistance (outside of school) to help them with their studies. Hence, I take pride in being that extra 'helping hand' which can assist students in their studies. Seeing students overcome difficulties in understanding concepts and seeing them success brings me joy. I enjoy imparting knowledge and believe that education is a powerful tool. Therefore, tutoring not only helps me empower others but also helps them shape a future that they desire.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Building relationships with the students that I tutor are easy because I am able to make genuine connections with them. I am able to relate to students because I am one myself: I am currently completing a Bachelor of Science degree. Completing a science degree also means that I am well trained in both maths and science. I am also fully aware of what is required of students in maths methods, biology and chemistry at VCE because I completed it in 2014. I am very persistent and will find different ways of teaching the same concept if a student is having difficulty understanding it.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Education can be extremely enjoyable but, understandably, if students cannot grasp concepts and ideas, they quickly lose interest. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to show their students that learning can actually be fun by teaching them about new ways of thinking. This, in turn, would help them engage in the content of a subject. Speaking from experience, subjects such as science and maths are full of complex concepts that can seem intimidating and can make students lost confidence. Tutors should be able to break down these concepts so that students can understand them.

It went well. Taj was having some difficulty with extended response type questions - we worked through them and developed some techniques to use in future questions.

In terms of concepts, Taj still needs to work on his basic arithmetic especially with regards to multiplication of larger numbers. With practice, he should get the hang of it.
The lesson went well. At first he was a bit shy, but as the lesson progress he was able to open up more which is a good sign.

He lacks some confidence and can be quite unsure of himself even when he has gotten the answer right. He needs to improve on putting pen to paper to be able to solve problems as he tends to solve them in his head. However, other than that he demonstrates a lot of enthusiasm and is a great student!
