What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
I enjoy seeing students' improvement and especially their deep understanding that results from my tutoring them. It has always surprised me how some concepts are still taught in 'off-by-heart' styles of teaching in schools, and it is something I aim to counteract in my tutoring by teaching deep understanding. I also share students' love of learning in most cases, and their enjoyment in improving certain skills adds to my enjoyment of tutoring them.
My Strengths as Tutor
I am very patient, and will always focus on the deep understanding of concepts as especially in mathematics, a students' deep grasp on a concept will enable them to do the same with other concepts more easily. I will also cater to the students' learning style, meaning for example if they make it clear to me that they are visual learners I will present sessions more visually (eg. graphing functions in mathematics).
Most important things I can do for a student
As I have stated earlier, I value the most important role of any tutor to be ensuring a student's deep understanding of concepts, as from my own experience this is invaluable to their success. Also important as a tutor is making sure the student is keeping up with the rest of the class, as the majority of their learning is still in the classroom, and tutorship is simply additional help alongside this. Finally, listening to the student for what they need help with is essential, as the student will know best what areas he/she needs to improve upon.
