What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I am one who is often known to enjoy challenges. Tutoring provides a challenge of transferring my own knowledge to a student and equipping them with the calibre of skills to answer certain questions and solve problems. Through the act of tutoring, I get to see the student progress their skills in certain areas I have taught. It is highly rewarding when at first, the student struggles significantly on a seemingly complex question or problem but through development of the studentβs ability, they become more independent of assisted problem-solving. This point where the student becomes independent
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I believe my greatest strength is patience, and when combined with my specific mentoring procedures it provides an environment for the student which is highly engaging and effective. Patience allows for the student to not feel any pressure or negative thoughts towards the subject and problems involved. Using my broad communication skills, I believe I have an elevated ability in adapting to each individual student and their needs. I understand personality and thought processes affect the way someone learns, therefore I have built the capability to tutor in specific learning styles.
Most important things I can do for a student π
By first giving the student the necessary skills to complete a range of questions this equips them with the tools to complete any question. I then allow the student to make the mistake first and learn from it by helping them change what they did. This is then followed up with an example response to a question then the student is given the chance to attempt a very similar question in a comfortable environment. If the student completes the question correctly by themselves, they experience a sense of achievement and independence, possibly feeling as though they can independently do the question.
