What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love seeing improvement in writing and the pride that accompanies it. It is such a shame that the education system seems to put pressure on teachers to rush through curriculum checklists rather than really delve into skills and techniques of essay construction. I have had many students believe they are "bad" at english and writing, when in reality that simply lack the basic tool kit. I love helping students work hard to improve their command of the english language to then realise they are completely capable of writing logical and persuasive arguments.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I adore literature and language and I believe that my passion is contagious. Many of my students who did not initially love english seem to emerge from my tutorials with a newfound interest (or at least appreciation).
I have also worked in many different classrooms (from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne to the Bronx, to rural Guatemala) and with students from many different backgrounds and ages. I am quite good at empathising with students and therefore finding a unique approach that suits their learning style and specific needs.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the role of the tutor is to build the basic skills of english comprehension/essay writing to that the student is prepared to tackle any assignment or examination. I do not believe in rote learning but instead on delving deeply into specific issues a student may have with writing and to address them methodically. It is not about the quantity of essays written but rather the improvement between those essays. I believe that during the acquisition of writing skills, students begin to slowly appreciate what great writing offers--not merely enriching classroom experience but also life.
