What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy witnessing the happiness of a student when they finally grasp a concept, thanks to my help, that they previously struggled with. This is because it really highlights to me that learning can be a pleasure when the environment and teaching methods are designed to match the personal style of each student.
I also quite enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that I have helped someone grow in an area of study they perhaps harboured negative feelings towards and avoided as a result before.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
- Maintaining rapport with students and families
- Being able to gauge and adapt the learning style for each specific student
- being able to introduce topics using simple methods and examples in order to make them understandable for students.
- being patient with students and respectful of their individual learning pace
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient. Often school teachers rush content, repeating the same explanation for each student as they teach. I can understand that this may be necessary for a large class but it becomes difficult for students that need more time to understand everything or process information differently. Therefore, I think as a private tutor, it is vital that we take our time with each lesson, making sure that the content is actually being properly understood, and if not then putting in the effort to figure out how it can be for long term retention.
