What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
My favorite thing about tutoring is the moment when a concept "clicks" for a student. I love seeing the spark in their eyes when they realize they understand the topic, and I can see their confidence growing firsthand. This, for me, is the most fulfilling thing about tutoring: overcoming challenges they once struggled with and helping them realize that they are capable of mastering difficult material.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
One of my strengths is my capabilities and understanding of mathematics; however, I believe this is true for all applicants. My traits that I believe set me apart are my patience, communication, and ability to break down complex topics into simple, digestible steps. I've been tutoring my fellow classmates since I was 11, so I've adapted to people with different abilities and learning styles. I'm committed to each student's growth and always make that extra effort to understand their needs and tailor my approach accordingly.
Most important things I can do for a student π
The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence for them to be able to think independently and to create a safe space where they feel comfortable asking questions. A great tutor doesn't just teach the content; they guide the students to understand what works best for them and develop the skills and mindset to apply the concepts beyond the tutoring sessions. The best tutor isn't simply the one who is the smartest, but rather, it is the one who can best identify the needs of each student and adjust accordingly.

About Josiah Raymond
Passion for Mathematics
I am an Undergrad Engineering student at Monash University with a lifelong passion for mathematics and education as a whole. I ranked top 1 in Mathematics for 6 consecutive years in high school out of ~350 students, and I've represented my school in national math competitions. Since the age of 11, I've been tutoring my peers, which has helped me develop the ability to break down complex topics into simpler and more digestible steps. Tutoring is more than just a job to me; it's something I've grown up doing and enjoying.
My Tutoring Approach and Strengths.
What sets me apart as a tutor is not just my strong academic background but my patience, empathy, and communication skills. I take extra time and effort to understand each student's learning style and tailor my approach accordingly, and adapt my methods to best suit them. I break down difficult topics into manageable steps and ensure students feel heard and supported, but still challenged. My background in leadership and mentorship has taught me how to motivate others all while creating a comfortable space to learn.
Building Confidence Beyond the Classroom
The most important thing I strive to do is to help students become confident and independent learners. I believe tutoring isn't just about revision on content; rather, it's about empowering students to believe in their abilities. Through my school leadership roles, I've learned how crucial encouragement and emotional support are in learning. My goal is to build a learning environment where students are invited to ask questions, be okay with making mistakes, and grow from them.
