I think the main role of a tutor is encouraging confidence in their students. I have found that most of the time my students know the answer, they're just too afraid to say it. Or they may be on the right track and need a little guidance to fully understand a concept, making problem solving skills another thing that I try to pass on to my…

I believe a tutor’s most important role is to build a student’s confidence and help them truly understand the subject, not just memorize it for grades. When students see the real-life value of what they’re learning and begin to enjoy it, their performance improves naturally. Creating a supportive and encouraging environment is key. My…

Identify where a student is genuinely stuck rather than guessing, then build real understanding instead of rote answers. Much like analysing a workflow to find the key bottleneck, a good tutor pinpoints the obstacle and gives the student confidence to work independently. A strong quantitative foundation across computer science, mathematics, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to their needs for their subject and pinpoint the exact cause for their frustration/ troubles. By first realizing the area of improvement time is used more efficiently for studying. Next the tutor should be able to connect and communicate with the student to understand their…

A tutor must be patient and listen to how the student feels and explains their material. Without this we can't understand where the gaps are in the students knowledge OR whether they really do understand, but just in a different way. I have infinite patience, I can adjust my communication style, and I when faced with something unfamiliar I have…

Being consistent, diligent and warm are what I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student. A tutor needs to be consistent in his/her teaching methods as well as his/her approach to a specific topic so that the student can easily understand what is being taught. A tutor needs to be diligent too, finding ways and solutions…

I think being supportive and helpful of a student is the most important thing a tutor can be. Being supportive helps the student feel comfortable and helps them to do their best work, which is where they will learn more. It's also important for a tutor to help the student really learn and understand what's being taught rather than simply give them…

Being patient and being a present mentor whilst teaching content material. It is very important to understand how your student learns best and what motivates them. I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

I think a common misconception about a tutor's job is that their whole purpose is to get their tutee an A+. While this is obviously a wonderful side-effect of tutoring, the most important thing a tutor can do is to develop and improve a student's ability to problem-solve, learn, and work effectively to complete their academic goals. The difference…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to make the subject matter enjoyable for students. 1. I believe my strengths would be being able to empathise with students, having a positive attitude towards learning, teaching and my subject, I have excellent communication skills and I'm patient and tolerant. 2. While I was a peer tutor, I…

In the teaching phase, student-focused teaching would be my method of teaching, which is to discover what the students need instead of dumping knowledge, whilst showing respect and understanding. When a student raises concerns about a question, which I assume in maths and sciences usually composites of concepts from multiple areas of study, I…

Adjusting their teaching style to suit the way that student learns. Sometimes, explaining the content for a long time will work, but most of the time it doesn't. Having patience and perseverance - the student isn't not understanding the content out of malice, the tutor just needs to figure out another way to teach them. When I was a tutee, I really appreciated my tutor bringing in candy as a gift/form of encouragement for me. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is tailor their lessons to the student's learning styles. For example, while a tutor may prefer to teach visually, a student may learn best by verbal explanations, so it is important for a tutor to put the needs of the student before their own and show adaptability in doing so. Additionally, a…

Staff at EzyMath Tutoring are helpful and knowledgeable. It was so easy to set up a tutor for my daughter. The process was seamless. The tutor made contact with me straight away to arrange a suitable time and the tutoring itself is going well.

Inside Upper KedronTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Keira worked through binomial expansion and quadratic equations involving area and perimeter, using real-worded problems to apply the maths.

In Year 11, Ethan practised finding exact values of trigonometric functions in degrees and radians and explored symmetry properties of sine, cosine, and tangent graphs with visual sketches.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Alex focused on proofs by contradiction for Specialist Maths PSMT tasks, including breaking down permutations relevant to his assignment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student forgot to bring any books or materials, which meant no meaningful progress could be made in the lesson—this disrupted momentum on their maths assignment.

In Year 8, a lack of clear note-taking led to confusion during algebra tasks; as one tutor put it, "he showed me his workbook and there was a significant lack of notes."

A tired Year 6 student struggled with concentration after athletics, resulting in incomplete practice questions for fractions.

Meanwhile, a Year 2 learner still relied heavily on counting with fingers for addition, slowing problem-solving and causing frustration when faced with timed exercises.

Recent Achievements

In Upper Kedron, a tutor recently observed that a Year 11 student who had struggled with complex quadratic equations is now forming and graphing them independently, using past feedback to refine her approach.

During a Year 9 maths session, a previously hesitant student started asking clarifying questions during lessons instead of quietly guessing—he's also begun labelling his notes more clearly after seeing the benefit.

Meanwhile, one younger student showed a shift by tackling every question on her worksheet without skipping any for the first time, staying focused through the whole session when she'd usually get distracted halfway through.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Arana Hills Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Andrew's Catholic School.
