Tutoring as a whole is so important in todays society. I believe it is extremely necessary that young students are taught one on one to ensure their success. As someone who grew up with a tutor, I have some of my best memories with my tutor, and I owe a lot of my success to her. It is important that tutors are patient and understanding, while also…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor to do is to guide their students through a difficult concept step by step, and lend them as much assistance as necessary. Ultimately, the goal is to help the students to succeed. I have very recently graduated from high-school, thus I have a fresh understanding of what is taught and how it was taught.…

Besides imparting essential knowledge of the subject, I think it is very important that the tutor has to show the student a right direction how to study and absorb knowledge, so that in the future they can study independently in college. In addition, a tutor can use various means to motivate the student to study harder and improve themselves day…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. Inside Upper Mount GravattTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Shani focused on probability and data analysis, including interpreting simple statistics and practicing basic probability scenarios.

In Year 10, Lara worked through the discriminant in quadratic equations and reviewed linear equations, reinforcing her algebra skills with targeted practice questions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Savio tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences by building recurrence models from information given and practiced rearranging algebraic equations using a step-by-step approach.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, incomplete homework became a pattern—one student "didn't finish the homework I gave," making it harder to build confidence with algebraic conversions.

In Year 10, a student shared she "finds it difficult to motivate herself to study for exams and usually procrastinates until the last minute," which left her rushed during practice sessions and less able to handle time pressure.

A Year 11 student relied on mental calculations in equations, skipping written steps; as noted, "it's better to write down the working steps out than doing mental maths." This made tracing errors nearly impossible under exam conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Upper Mount Gravatt noticed that a Year 10 student, who previously struggled to organise her thoughts for English assignments, began catching her own run-on sentences and correcting them independently by the end of their session.

In Year 8 maths, one student who used to quietly guess at answers started openly asking questions whenever unsure—showing real initiative that hadn't been there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student managed to finish all target questions on time for the first time after weeks of needing reminders, handing in her completed worksheet without any prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Garden City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Upper Mount Gravatt State School.
