Three things stand out for me. The first is to listen before you teach. Understanding where a student is struggling, and why, matters far more than rushing through content. The second is to make the student feel safe enough to be wrong. Learning only happens when someone is willing to try, and that requires an environment where mistakes…

The most important thing a tutor can give a student is confidence in their capabilities, As one of my tutors did for me. It is really really important to make the students feel confident when they are right and not making them feel like they did something wrong. My strengths lie in being patient and understanding while being fully immersed in…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to truly understand the student and make them feel supported and comfortable. It's crucial to identify where the student is struggling and where they need support, as well as recognizing their potential. Tailoring the teaching approach to suit the individual needs of each student is key, as I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is giving them confidence that they can learn. This will give them confidence to try and be creative in finding ways to understand any complex topic they need to know. One of my strengths as a tutor is that I am creative in discussing complex topics. I can discuss the same topic in different…

The most important thing is being able to connect with the children and spark curiosity about the subjects in their minds. As them being excited to learn makes them more receptive to learn more complex topics with relative ease. My strengths are approaching problems with different perspectives and focusing on the logic and structure of the…

I believe a good tutor is making the student understand what they are learning but not how to get good result in their exam. Base of my past experience in attending tuition, my tutors tend to explain mathematics theorem in detail so we could understand them better and not only just to memorise when to use the formula. Also I believe practice makes…

I am very passionate about helping younger students to achieve their goals, not only in the academic fields but also in daily life! Also, for the students in years 2-6, I think it is important to inspire their interest in maths as a tutor. Being a role model and mentor to the student, both academically and in life. By helping them develop their skills in the subject area, a tutor models approaches to thinking, problem solving and one's attitude towards learning. Be adaptable and change teaching methods based on what the student needs the most, whether that's different exercise styles or explaining a concept in a different way. A tutor can induce confidence about the right things a student is supposed to know. The tutor's major role is to make the student clearly understand concepts of subjects without a thing such as doubt in their mind. Help them enjoy learning. The role of a tutor should be to engage the student and make the learning process fun, encouraging them to put more effort into their learning, consequently improving their results. As well as this, it is vital that a tutor guide the student to a solution rather than simply giving them the answer, allowing them to…

The most important role of a tutor is to transform a student’s mindset. Beyond teaching content, I aim to impart a genuine passion for the subject and build the self-belief that they are capable of mastering it. Inside WareembaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Rose practiced multiplication using the column method for two- and three-digit numbers, then started long division, reinforcing skills with games and timed worksheets.

A Year 9 student revised trigonometry and probability questions to prepare for an upcoming exam, focusing on solving right-angled triangle problems and basic chance calculations.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through questions on finding the midpoint, distance, and gradient of a line given two points, applying these to graph linear relationships.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student tended to check every maths answer with me before moving on, showing hesitation despite correct work—this meant quiz time was spent seeking reassurance instead of practicing independently.

In Year 10, a missed assignment detail wasn't shared during sessions; as the tutor noted, "he would have benefitted from input," but did it alone and missed out on targeted feedback.

A senior student struggled with exam time management, having to rush sections after underestimating how long tasks like financial maths would take. The stress lingered as she recounted feeling pressed for time after the session ended.

Recent Achievements

One Wareemba tutoring session saw a Year 11 student move from relying on memorised rules to confidently breaking down differentiation problems step by step, even cross-checking with earlier concepts like Pythagoras when needed.

In Year 9 English, a student who used to struggle with essay structure is now independently using the P.E.E. format and can clearly explain her reasoning for each point.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who often rushed through addition tasks surprised her tutor this week by pausing to double-check answers—spotting and fixing her own errors before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Five Dock Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Abbotsford Public School.
