A tutor needs to inspire the students in such a way that they know what their efforts will make them accomplish. A very few teachers are able to provide the contextual applications of what they teach the students. I believe it is paramount that a student know about WHY he is being taught something. Sparking interest in studies is not easy at times…

In my opinion the most important thing a teacher can do for a Student is to make a Educational related understanding with the student. As in my case I make sure the student clear his idea and he/she is not shy to ask more questions. I take tutoring as my Passion so I do not move to the next idea/topic if my student did not understand the previous…

Understand the student, be patient with them and rather than becoming the student's boss, become their leader/role model and guide them towards their goals. A tutor should also have a growth mindset with his students and always be positive not letting his students drop their heads. I'm very patient and I also completed a Psychology internship in a…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to make learning feel simple, build the student's confidence, and support them at their own pace. A good tutor listens, explains concepts in different ways, and creates a safe space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. One of my strengths as a tutor is that I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to become independent. I would say that tutoring is only a temporary solution to their academic problems. If they are going to enter a university, get a real job or did not have enough money to pay for tutoring services, I would want them to learn on their own. A time would…

A tutor who can do this can make lessons more engaging, identify learning barriers, and help students build genuine confidence and enjoyment in learning. Tutors are just not there to help students with their students. Their most important role is to be friends and be able to guide their students in the right direction. If tutors become friends, the students listen and trust them more. Of course this does not mean that students can take tutors for a ride. As a tutor I am hardworking, diligent and…

To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. Inside WarraweeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack focused on strengthening subtraction and division skills through targeted practice, while building confidence in addition and multiplication.

In Year 9, Emily worked through solving algebraic expressions—including both one-step and two-step equations—and also reviewed area and perimeter using real-world examples.

For Year 11, Liam concentrated on trigonometric equations by applying them to right-angled triangles, as well as revising factorisation methods with structured problem sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, one student frequently left out full working in simultaneous equations, making it hard to catch missteps—"show full working out; don't simplify everything in one step," noted a tutor.

For a Year 11 student, forgetting formulas like the difference of two squares during algebra tasks meant extra time spent hunting for errors instead of building new skills.

A Year 4 learner sometimes avoided setting out sums before finding averages, leading to confusion and retracing steps mid-problem.

In senior classes, skipping homework or avoiding unfamiliar question types left students less prepared for exams and unable to tackle harder application questions confidently.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Warrawee recently noticed a Year 8 student who used to rush through mental maths now taking time to pick out key details in word problems, then setting up equations on her own—a big shift from guessing at answers.

In high school sessions, one Year 10 boy began openly asking for clarification instead of staying silent when stuck; he's also started completing homework without reminders.

Meanwhile, a senior student who'd previously lost marks on trigonometry questions was able to spot and fix his mistakes during practice, finishing all the assigned problems with only self-checked corrections.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Turramurra Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Knox Grammar School.
