Students spend a major part of a day in school. Many children are unable to get the most of it due to time-constraints and lack of individual attention in a class. However, there are a few students who maintain attention and focus in a classroom environment. Reason is they are more prepared than the rest. If a child follows what is happening in…

Inside Watermans BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Paige worked on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as practicing multiplication with decimals using recent test questions.

Year 10 Benji focused on finding equations of linear graphs, including midpoints and lengths of segments, and explored relationships between parallel and perpendicular lines.

For Year 11 Math Applications, exam-style questions were used to reinforce understanding of surface area and volume calculations for various shapes, ensuring application skills ahead of assessments.

Recent Challenges

Incomplete homework ("Did not do homework set") in Year 8 maths meant skills with midpoints and correlation weren't consolidated before moving on.

A Year 10 student was reluctant to write out full algebraic working, which made it easy to lose track of signs and steps; as a tutor noted, "He sometimes skips ahead but still writes what he did (e.g., 3x1, x/31/3)."

For a senior student in trigonometry, practicing only familiar types left gaps when questions were presented in new forms—he struggled when equations were rearranged or required recalling surd rules under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Watermans Bay noticed Benji, a high school student, went from needing regular guidance to independently answering every question on trigonometry proofs and adapting quickly to new graph types—a big step up from earlier sessions where he hesitated with unfamiliar problems.

Paige, also in high school, used to make repeated mistakes simplifying fractions but now catches and corrects errors herself after some prompting, showing real self-reliance.

Meanwhile, a younger student was thrilled when they nearly finished their homework during the lesson and started volunteering answers instead of waiting for hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Duncraig Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marmion Primary School.
