I think if the student is satisfied with their progress and achievement then the tutor has done their job correctly. It's not about about each student achieving top marks, but making improvements and them actually enjoying the content they are learning. I'm extremely patient and engaging. I try to make sure the students are not bored in their…

Actually engage and interact with the student to find where, and more importantly why they're struggling or need help. This not only is a short term solution to a single question which may be raised, but is extremely helpful in the long run as their problem solving skills and overall performance improves. Also, make sure the student actually…

I believe that one of the most important roles of a tutor is to develop confidence within the student. I think this is one on the best ways to improve their skill set. Furthermore, I think this is an essential aspect of developing their understanding of content and improving their overall performance in a subject. I’d say my strengths as a tutor…

The most important thing for a tutor to provide to a student is confidence. Without implementing confidence into the student for the subject they are struggling with, success in the subject will be harder. This means I will ensure students understand the concepts of the subject by teaching them the basics to build their confidence. My strengths…

The most important thing I consider of a tutor to do for a student is to communicate in a way where the student is reassured that in a safe space, they feel motivated, confident and ease within their tutoring sessions. This is most important as it is best to establish a good work environment and relation with the tutor so that they are not afraid…

Support. Providing a great amount of support and motivation is crucial for a student’s education path. Without this, a lack of drive would occur which is detrimental to their learning, ultimately affecting their peers around them which acts like the domino effect. I have been to multiple coaching centres since Kindergarten and I have realised…

Facilitate the growth of a student to allow a student to reach their full potential, which means giving 110% at all times for the student. I also believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is be flexible and approachable, so that tutoring is a positive experience which further allows students to flourish. MENTOR/TUTOR It is important that tutors have a friendly approach to students and make sure that students set a goal for every lesson. This way as a tutor we know that the student knows what is being taught and ensure the student understands the concepts. My strengths as a tutor are knowing the students' weaknesses of each area, and knowing…

Inside Wetherill ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Andrew focused on subtraction using different strategies and tackled word problems involving money, along with revising time concepts like calendars and converting between units such as seconds, minutes, and hours.

For Year 10, Judy worked through algebraic fractions—simplifying, factoring, and adding/subtracting them—and also revised surds in preparation for an upcoming test.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Sam covered Lewis dot diagrams to understand chemical bonding types and practiced applying different separation techniques required by the course.

Recent Challenges

Several process challenges were observed across year levels.

In Year 4 mathematics, reliance on mental calculation—"gets lost sometimes" when not writing down steps—led to confusion with subtraction and slow progress in single-digit operations.

During a Year 9 trigonometry session, homework was often incomplete or rushed; one lesson note read, "Attempted homework minutes before our session – only half was completed."

For a senior student preparing for an exam, lack of organization meant the upcoming test was only discovered in class, leaving minimal time for review.

Moments of tiredness and distraction resulted in forgotten steps and lower motivation during key lessons.

Recent Achievements

A Wetherill Park tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student, who previously hesitated to use her calculator, growing noticeably quicker and more confident as she tackled complex maths problems—by lesson's end, she was solving each question with increasing speed.

In Year 9, one student who usually guessed when confused started actively asking for help instead, leading to clearer understanding of algebraic equations.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who struggled last week with number lines not only finished his homework independently this time but also correctly explained previous mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Wetherill Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like William Stimson Public School.
