A tutor apart from offering services of tutorship has a huge impact a student's life in the following ways: 1. Encourage students to apply his/her independent mind and motivate them to think out of the box. 2. Go out of the way in exploring different options to teach the same course/study material. 3. Be available for your students and…

As a tutor, you play an important role in a student's mentality towards education. A tutor should aim to correct the "I can't do it" mindset that many students have into an "I can't do it now, but with some guidance and work I will be able to" mindset. But a tutor should also be able to help an already excelling student to achieve higher and to…

Patience because it is very easy for students to get frustrated when they aren't able to immediately understand a concept. Therefore breaking down tasks into smaller steps allows students to always improve their knowledge. Being able to keep students engaged and understand that every student has a different way of learning, which I achieve through…

I believe the most important facet of tutoring students is learning to empathise with them to gain their unique perspective. This is important because it enables the tutor to be critical of their existing teaching habits, to revise their strategies and be adaptable to suit the needs of the student. Simultaneously, I believe it is crucial to match…

A tutor is someone who can help to support and strengthen students' self-efficacy one-on-one. This is extremely important as classroom teachers have to manage multiple students in a classroom and cannot provide the same undivided attention as a tutor can. Tutors instil confidence in their students, assist them in unpacking and understanding areas…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is simply be open to answer any questions a student might have. They need to be able to grasp the entire concept so that it can be applied in their school work. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is , in my opinion, recognize that each student is unique and has different learning styles, strengths and weaknesses. I believe the most valuable tutors to students are those that are able to place themselves in the minds of their students. If I was a 15 year old beginning to learn the basics of calculus for example, I would consider which fundamentals they must first learn to gain a solid and sound foundation before moving onto more difficult components. I…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them and work with them, not at them. Tutoring for me is not just about regurgitating the same things as their classroom teacher, especially if it is a student who is struggling and the classroom approach is not working for them. I tutor in a way to make the student…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build not only a survey-able understanding of the topic, but hopefully a genuine interest and passion. This might not be realistic 100% of the time, but creating actual curiosity and interest beyond just completing work out of necessity can not only be highly rewarding for the student but will…

Inside WindsorTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Nicholas practised converting mixed numbers to decimals and ordering decimals, then moved on to rounding decimals to different place values.

In Year 9, Ava worked through SOH-CAH-TOA trigonometry rules for right triangles and solved word problems using the Pythagorean theorem.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Matthew focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions—including perfect squares—and applied these skills in exercises involving difference of two squares.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, incomplete homework meant key credit card and interest concepts were forgotten—this showed up in quiz struggles. "A significant amount of knowledge...was lost over the last week due to incompletion of homework," a tutor noted.

In Physics (Year 12), written work for mechanics topics was sometimes hard to follow, with missed steps during multi-part calculations leading to errors that slowed progress on Module 5 questions.

For a Year 8 student, skipping working on paper and relying only on mental maths led to confusion in algebra problems; this habit made it harder to spot where mistakes crept in.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Windsor noticed one high school student who used to skip note-taking now diligently writes down key tips and even refers back to them when tackling new material.

Another secondary student, after weeks of struggling with logarithms, finally began applying log rules independently during practice questions, marking a real turning point in their understanding.

In Year 4, a younger learner who often guessed at answers started raising her hand to ask clarifying questions instead—showing she's becoming more comfortable seeking help rather than staying silent or guessing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Prahran / Windsor Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Windsor Primary School.
