I think the most important thing a tutor need to do for a student is to acknowledge it is not only a job. Acknowledge that we are important influences for students. Thus, we need to keep studying to be better for students, learn how to educate, willing to use more time, communicate with experienced teachers, ask if we do not know know to deal with…

A tutor should take their time with a student and make sure the student understands before moving on. I believe the purpose of tutoring should be to provide learning strategies that are specific to the individual in contrast with teaching in a classroom (at the pace of the class). A tutor should provide multiple strategies for learning. For…

I believe the most crucial thing that a tutor can do for their student is to encourage not only their understanding of a subject/topic but also their passion and enthusiasm for it. I believe that allowing a student to flourish in an environment tailored to them allows them to treat their studies less as a chore and more as a passion. This not…

Try to make them feel confident in themselves and build intuition. Understanding the student by listening carefully to them is important so you know the best way to help them with any problems. Having faith and trust in a student is also very important and enables them to build self confidence and trust within themselves and their ability to solve problems. I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. According to me the most important trait in a tutor is patience. It is not necessary that each child learns at the same pace. A tutor should also possess the ability to create and provide problem statements which help the student to get a grip over the topic. Along with a good speaker a tutor must be a good listener making the session more…

Facilitating learning for students and empowering them to overcome their obstacles. A tutor needs to be an activator of knowledge and not a proxy to solve problems. The most important thing a tutor must do is to assess the student's answer and provide feedback, as that really helps them learn from their mistakes. Equally integral is, taking a doubt session as solving the doubts of the student not only improves learning but also develops a sense of confidence in the student about the subject, which develops a…

Inside Windsor GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ashton worked on DNA structure, replication, and mitosis in preparation for a biology test.

For Year 10, Emily focused on graphing quadratics and completed worksheets covering arithmetic skills alongside quadratic factorisation practice.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Tom revised expanding brackets and tackled problems involving factorising algebraic expressions, using step-by-step examples to reinforce understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when expanding or factoring quadratics led to confusion—"as the tutor noted, she left out working, which made sign errors harder to spot."

In Year 8 English essay writing, a student arrived without their novel, so evidence for analysis had to be guessed instead of quoted.

For a Year 4 learner, incomplete homework on basic sentence construction and phonics meant foundational spelling and reading skills lagged behind.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 biology student depended heavily on PowerPoint slides rather than using flashcards for active recall; this left key terms unretained during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Windsor Gardens tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to avoid essay planning now drawing clear links between ideas and providing much more detailed evidence in their SACE English assignments.

In maths, a Year 8 learner who previously struggled with converting denominators started applying the correct rules independently after practising methods for double negatives—showing genuine improvement in both understanding and self-reliance.

Meanwhile, a younger student has begun using visual story maps to plan imaginative narratives and is now referring back to her own drawings when writing conclusions, something she hadn't tried before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Avenues College.
