To be consoling and confident, so that the student believes in you. To have a very good relationship with the student is an important key because it releases the stress on the student-tutor barrier, which is important especially during learning. Additionally, to motivate the student in achieving intellectual barriers. I am a people person as i am…

A teacher needs to be friendly, interactive at the same time authoritarian in a positive way. A teacher cannot do much if a student do not co-operates. So for a teacher he should try to make the student comfortable in sharing their problems. My strength is that I am a Protagonists according to the leadership assessment. I empower students in such…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence and adapt lessons to their learning style. For example, I often use practical examples such as real-life applications of forces and motion (e.g. seat belts in car) in Physics to help students better understand difficult concepts rather than relying only on…

Taking their time to explain a method or topic properly in a way that the students understand. I think this is important because if the students don't clearly understand the process in which they need to apply it, then the method isn't useful. But that method is not going to be the same for each student My skills would be my patience and…

A tutor should try to think like a student tutor should try to get into the child’s mind, mostly a tutor should try to bend according to the child’s need because if a tutor is just like a machine then they won’t be able to critically analyse where the child is unable to grasp the knowledge so it’s very very important that a tutor should…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are: Build Confidence – Creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes is crucial. Encouragement helps them believe in their abilities, which is often half the battle. Clarify and Simplify Concepts – Tutors…

A tutor can show the beauty of the subject and make the student love the subject. Once that happens, the student can excel not only in that subject, but can also approach everything in life with confidence and aptitude. I love teaching - That would be my greatest strength. The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is relate to them. Everyone is different and learns in a different way. Hence, you must adjust your method of teaching for each individual student. Some people are auditory, visual or written learners, some like algebra, calculus, or trigonometry. Moreover, if you are understanding of your…

I think a tutor is a map for the pathway of the student's success. The tutor will do all within their limit to make sure they have given enough importance to the student to excel. This includes the peripheral knowledge that a student should have surrounding the content/topic - which means what is the purpose of learning/ how is it going to help…

This is because, with empathy and encouragement, students will perform better as they are more engaged and motivated in subjects they are studying. Furthermore, a tutor should give strategies…

A tutor can engage the mind of a child and develop a love for the subject within the child. Education has the power to broaden horizons and inculcate a sense of satisfaction which I believe can be brought in by the help of a tutor. Being able to communicate at a level that the child understands is a must. As a tutor, you must be able to build a…

Having received a lot of tutoring growing up, I know first-hand how challenging it can be to grasp difficult concepts. I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to celebrate their successes, big or small. It can be difficult for some students to maintain a love for learning, or even just develop a motivation to study more, so I believe that a tutor is a pillar of support for the student throughout their learning. A tutor can give that…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is truly be their well-wisher. I think students are coming to tutors because they know they need help. Acknowledging that they took that step, understanding the knowledge base with which they're there, teaching them in easy terms, and creating a long term plan for their studies is the…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is help a student become confident and independent in their learning. Rather than simply giving them answers, a tutor should help them understand the reasoning behind concepts and develop strategies they can use on their own. It is also important to be patient, recognise each student’s…

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
