I believe the most important thing a physics tutor can do is foster a student’s confidence and independence in learning. While explaining concepts is important, my goal is to empower students to think critically, ask questions and develop their own problem-solving strategies that work for them. When students begin to trust in their own abilities…

Be a mentor as well, mathematical skills might not be the only thing a child needs. Often a student doesn't perform poorly in school due to disinterest or an inability to understand the work, but because of various troubles in their lives. Pre-teens and teenagers are often reluctant to share their troubles with their parents but jump at the…

The most important thing that a physics tutor can do is to promote understanding instead of memorizing along with building confidence with positive reinforcement and a personal level of bonding. Every student thinks and understands information and problems differently, my greatest strength is patience as I do not give up until the student gains…

Creating an atmosphere in which the students feel they can evolve, and assure them that they are all capable of understanding, analyzing, and applying the different concepts of math and physics and then creating their own method for learning and solving problems. I believe that it is paramount for a physics tutor to understand that every student learns differently and therefore may need a different approach to studying to achieve their goals. A tutor should ask their student how they learn best and implement this feedback into their approach to tutoring. Similarly, it is important to understand that each…

My strengths are good communication skills, flexibility, patience, understanding the students' problems, and guide them accordingly. Other strengths would include being more…

I think that being patient and empathetic are two of the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student. Listening empathetically to a student can help a tutor to understand the way that the student thinks. In turn, the student feels understood and real improvements can be made. Patience is important for many reasons in tutoring. In…

I think the most important is to keep a check whether the student is understanding then and there and not relying on some youtube video they might watch later. Another thing which I felt personally was that making sure there is a perfect link between lectures and a adequate amount of practice during learning. The way I can explain through…

The most important thing a physics tutor can do is teach how to think, not just what to memorize. It is about building genuine confidence, breaking down mental blocks, and mentoring students on exam strategy so they eventually become entirely self-reliant. I’d say my biggest strength is making abstract concepts actually make sense. Because I…

I believe the most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is guide them towards the answer, in a way that allows the student to fully understand a concept rather than just solve a specific question. The ultimate goal would be for the students to develop the confidence, ability and skills to solve problems on their own. So actually,…

One of the most important things a physics tutor can do for a student is to be proud of all the improvements the student has done. I believe one of my…

Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
