Help students understand difficult concepts by breaking them down into simpler parts and explaining them in a way that makes sense. It also provides your child with ideas for solving problems, so that he or she will have a method for solving problems of his or her own when faced with challenging problems in the future. Encourage and support…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment. I like to create a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as I believe it is crucial for effective learning and something that most traditional schools fail to provide. I believe my…

In my perspective, providing confidence is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. The majority of people would hire a tutor is because of one's unsatisfactory performance towards the subject. Confidence would increase the understanding process for most of the people. Furthermore, to excel in the subject, the student has to work…

The most important thing a tutor can do is ensure that a student does not hate the subject they require tutoring in. The tutor must approach the subject on the same level as the student so that the student does not dread having a tutoring session and develops a liking towards the subject. I ensure that someone works to their full potential and if…

Inspiring excitement and curiosity; because active learning that is fuelled by the personal interests of an individual is not only the most efficient way of learning but also the most enjoyable. I am great at seeing connections between concepts and therefore good at relating new topics with prior knowledge. This makes me good at explaining things…

Personally, I think the most important things a tutor can do are to help a student identify any weak points and build their confidence in a topic, with plenty of guided past-paper questions to keep engagement high. It is also important to explain a topic with the goal of understanding rather than memorization, and to explain the reasoning behind…

The most important thing for a tutor to do is to make sure the student is understanding them. A tutor should always allow a student to figure out problem entirely by themselves. The worst thing to do is to solve everything for the student. A student should feel he/she is a smart logical human being, he/she just need a bit of guidance and assistance, however, no one undermines his/her abilities. I am patient and enthusiastic at the same…

I believe the most important thing a tutor brings is 1 to 1 guidance. A good tutor can work with the student and guide them to achieve their individual goals, and can adjust their methods and pace as necessary, unlike in a class at school where the pace of teaching is same for everyone. I have a strong grasp of the sciences and English, and I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to improve their confidence and self-esteem. I find with many of my past students, they posses the skills to complete assignments but simply don't believe in themselves. Recieving poor or mediocre grades can crush a students morale leading to a bitterness towards a subect. This tends to be a…

To boost confidence and motivation. I believe that you cannot force a student to learn, but you can guide them to do their best. If the student does not wish to learn, there is not much I can do to improve their grades. But, if the students are highly motivated and willing to learn, even if their grades are below average, they can rapidly improve…

I think a tutor must be extremely understanding of a students concerns and queries regarding their work. Also, not only must a tutor be well versed in the content, they must also develop ways to explain these concepts to students who have a lack of understanding or no understanding at all, tailored to the needs of that particular individual. I am…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are threefold. First, build confidence, many students already know more than they think, but anxiety or past frustration gets in the way. A tutor should help them trust their own ability. Second, teach how to think, not just what to think. In subjects like chemistry and physics,…

Be respectful and patient. It's essential to understand the students' needs and preferred methods of learning, as everyone's habits are so different. It's often frustrating not to understand what is being taught in class and feeling behind. In addition to teaching and explaining the academic material, I believe a good tutor also provides encouragement to the students and potentially even evoke inspiration and genuine curiosity in that field. My strengths as a tutor lie in the ability of…

Zacharo, Albert Park

Inside Albert ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eliza focused on right-angled triangle trigonometry, using sine, cosine, and tangent to find unknown sides and angles, and practised interpreting worded problems involving true bearings.

Year 10 student Olivia worked through quadratic equations by completing the square and factorisation in preparation for a test, as well as reviewing the expansion of quadratics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Max tackled logarithms—covering concepts and worksheet practice—before moving on to applications of differentiation for polynomials.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing a statistics assignment sometimes left analysis sections unfinished or only in dot points, as noted: "Convert dot point ideas into sentences & paragraphs." This led to feedback being delayed and made self-review harder.

In Year 9, another student's exam revision was inconsistent—practice focused on familiar networks content rather than trickier trigonometry and matrix multiplication.

For a Year 8 maths task, one student relied heavily on calculator shortcuts during matrix questions ("more practice is needed on calculator"), which hid gaps in understanding when the method changed.

Missed opportunities for deeper learning appeared across multiple years when written work stayed incomplete or revision avoided less confident topics.

Recent Achievements

One Albert Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to mix up x and y coordinates now reliably applies the correct formulas for midpoint, distance, and gradient, even graphing without errors.

A Year 12 student who previously hesitated to ask questions about differentiation is now tackling polynomial problems independently and recently explained the tangent–secant relationship back to the tutor unprompted.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 7 has shifted from guessing angles in triangles to methodically identifying sides using SOHCAHTOA before solving for missing values—last session, she found all missing angles herself on the first try.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Albert Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Albert Park Primary School.
