Furthermore, I believe it is important to provide a human connection, and be consistent such that these young learners believe their tutors really want the best for them. I'm very dedicated and would ensure…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is to assess their interest, strong and weak points and guide them to help them decide what field/specialization they want to seem themselves in. Marks and grades albeit very important and not the defining factors for their future. They have to see for themselves what they are passionate about and a…

For me, one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is interaction. As interactive the session will be, more output will one get from their students. I’ll try to become their friend rather than being a typical teacher. Homework and self study will be two of the key tasks of the session. One of my biggest strength as a tutor is…

Giving them encouragement and prompting them to keep trying. Emphasizing repetition is very important. It builds a 'keep trying' attitude in the students that will carry them through school and further on in their lives. I am patient with students. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to inspire confidence, make learning enjoyable, and nurture independent thinking. From my experience tutoring O Level students and peers at Monash College, I’ve learned that academic success starts with self-belief. One student I tutored in Physics used to think the subject was…

I think the best tutor is one who guides the students properly and fairly not only in their academics but also about life challenges. Most importantly a tutor should be ready to explain a single concept even 10 times to students if they are not able to get that without getting annoyed Well , I'm quite patient which I think is my biggest strength…

Inside Allenby GardensTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Emily worked through linear algebra by graphing equations using x and y intercepts, then practised finding gradients from different forms.

For Year 9, Lucas focused on trigonometry homework involving sin, cos, and tan ratios for problem-solving in right-angled triangles.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan revised surface area calculations for complex 3D shapes built from simpler solids and completed measurement tasks involving the volume of various three-dimensional figures.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 English, a student's written work revealed missed opportunities to strengthen arguments by integrating quotes smoothly and explaining their relevance; as one tutor put it, "she has a good grasp on the concept, but her explanations need clarity."

In Year 9 Maths, working too quickly led to skipped steps in calculating surface areas of combined shapes—vital details were sometimes left out when breaking down complex prisms.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often hesitated with multiplication and fractions due to lack of confidence, leading to confusion during longer calculations and leaving answers unfinished in class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Allenby Gardens recently noticed some real turning points for students. One Year 10 student, who used to rush through algebra without checking her steps, is now talking aloud through each stage and catching her own mistakes before moving on.

In a senior science session, another student went from being confused about the difference between series and parallel circuits to confidently explaining Ohm's Law and calculating unknown values by the end of the lesson.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously struggled with multiplication realised that multiplying each digit matters and finished his worksheet accurately for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hindmarsh Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Allenby Gardens Primary School.
