Different students have different learning techniques, in that sense I think a teacher should describe a topic multiple times along with different ways to solve the same problem. And, I always keep in mind that everyone's understanding is not same and do not have the same mind set for learning the subjects. As a tutor, I believe I have the enough…

I think the most important thing I can do for a student is really just build their foundational understanding of the content. With a strong foundational understanding the students can be more confident and creative in their application in the concepts. I have two main strengths as a tutor. First, I bring a very strong working knowledge of the…

To me, the most essential role a tutor can fulfill is that of an enabler and empowerer. I believe a tutor's primary goal should be to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and a resilient problem-solving framework, not only to tackle academic challenges but also to navigate any obstacle life may present. An empowering tutor equips…

The most important thing I can do is continuously adapt to a student’s evolving learning needs. Students are at a crucial stage of cognitive development, and their understanding can shift from one lesson to the next. A tutor must assess their learning style in every session, adjusting explanations and approaches accordingly. What worked well in…

I believe following up with students is the best way to create accountability and instil a routine in them. Also, tutors who put in effort after hours, such as staying back to help or creating personalised tasks to target their weak areas, are critical for students to excel in their studies. As a previously tutored student, I can guarantee that…

"I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where students feel safe to ask questions and make mistakes. I think having confidence in their thought process. Some children know the concept but don't have the confidence in their skills to apply it because they are scared of getting it wrong. Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. Build their confidence so they can solve problems independently, like debugging code on their own. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel confident in their understanding, which allows them to be better learners overall. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student genuinely understand the subject rather than simply giving them answers. Inside AshfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ekam worked on fractions, including addition and multiplication, and then applied these skills to measurement topics such as distance, speed, and time using worded problems.

In Year 10, Alex tackled trigonometric equations involving multiple quadrants and explored data concepts like skewness and interpreting box plots.

For Year 12, Priya focused on integrating exponential functions as well as applying calculus to graphing tasks by finding stationary points on curves.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, there were repeated challenges with remembering area and perimeter formulas—one session noted "despite having already written down the formula over and over again, [he] seems to be uninterested and not focused in class," which led to forgotten content week-to-week.

By Year 11, skipped steps became visible in working for median questions: a tutor remarked, "skipped steps in working here and there leading to careless mistakes."

In senior years, missed homework and reliance on tutor guidance limited independent understanding; during trigonometric identities revision (Year 12), incomplete set-out hid errors until feedback was given.

Confidence sometimes dipped after setbacks, causing quietness rather than seeking clarification.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ashfield noticed that a Year 8 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with probability questions now speaks up as soon as he's unsure, leading him to solve more problems independently.

A Year 12 student demonstrated a real shift by revising and annotating his assignment before submission, making specific improvements based on feedback rather than submitting straight away—a big change from past rushed work.

Meanwhile, one younger student recently completed all of his homework correctly for the first time this term and was eager to show how he'd checked each answer himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ashfield Public School.
