I would consider a connection to (and understanding of) the student to be the most important thing for a one on one tutoring relationship. Without a thorough understanding of their needs and situation, one cannot properly assess the best way to assist in their learning. I'm very personable, able to chat with anyone about almost anything. My high…

Honestly, the most important thing I believe I can do for my students as a tutor is offering and showing my support for them. Academic demands will get stressful and well, boring. Therefore, I personally believe that showing my presence and guidance will help them tremendously, both academically and emotionally. My strength as a tutor is the…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to accommodate their learning style. Students have ranging techniques and motivations when learning content. Personally, I struggled with auditory learning as a student, and would therefore ask my teachers to give me a range of tactile learning techniques to assist in my learning. I…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build a student's confidence while helping them develop strong problem-solving skills. A good tutor should listen to the student's needs, adapt lessons to their learning style, encourage them to ask questions, and provide consistent support so they become more independent and motivated…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for the students is to motivate and encourage them to do their best. I believe that results are mostly achieved through the effort of the students themselves, so as a tutor I try my best to cover all the concepts and to provide my students with support materials, but I also make sure that my students…

I think an essential thing a tutor can do for their student is be empathetic! Often, for teachers, its hard to understand what students are feeling, since school and lifestyle has changed from the time they were students to now (in a global pandemic). Therefore, being an tutor who displays empathy about understanding what its like being a student…

I believe that tutors must have a good attitude and genuinely enjoy the concepts and the subject. Without this, the student will most likely find the tutoring bland and boring, which would reduce their engagement and their overall performance and knowledge in the subject. My experience as a tennis coach has shown me how different students learn at…

Tutors needs to deliver their fullest in educating the student. They need to have the patience to redirect from the main concept in focus to teach the fundamentals which the student lacks the knowledge. I explain as detailed as possible depending on the extent the student knows-if the student lacks the basics of the subject, I make a considerable…

Helping students become the best they can possibly be, allowing them to build confidence, and become independent learners. I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is to pivot their teaching style in order to suit not only the content but how the student learns. Confidence is the most important thing a tutor can bring to a student struggling with English. A tutor will ideally be able to give a student confidence, knowledge, an understanding of why learning is important, and hopefully some sense of enjoyment of the learning process. Inside AshfordTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ella revised key concepts in polynomials and equations to prepare for an upcoming test, including identifying features of polynomial graphs.

In Year 10, James worked on understanding domain and range within the Functions and Graphs topic, using graph sketches to visualise how different rules affect function behaviour.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Chloe focused on finding sign diagrams and determining the shape of a graph using derivatives, applying calculus skills to analyse turning points and inflection.

Recent Challenges

In recent high school sessions, several students struggled to apply their knowledge independently—one Year 11 found that she needed prompting to connect steps in trigonometry, which slowed progress on unfamiliar question types.

In a Year 10 assignment, unclear instructions led to incomplete or confused analyses; the tutor noted messy, disorganized books made it harder for her to keep track of what was required.

At the primary level, a Year 4 student often left homework unfinished and had trouble making sense of worded problems unless each step was guided out loud. When test instructions were vague, confidence dropped sharply.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ashford noticed that Tia, who used to hesitate with trigonometry, can now label triangle sides correctly (H/O/A) without help and catches her own gradient errors when graphing lines—both areas she struggled with earlier.

In a recent high school session, Zoe moved from needing step-by-step support to independently solving exam-style integration problems after just a few examples.

Meanwhile, Natalia (primary) has become much more self-reliant: she now spots missed steps on her own in worded problems and amends her answers without prompting—a big change from her initial need for constant guidance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Goodwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Richmond Primary School.
