This includes discipline and intrinsic motivation in order to help them become strong and independent learners. I am good at communicating and explaining ideas and concepts to others. I am flexible and able to adapt to the needs of others through…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach him methods and techniques for solving problems, instead of just providing solutions directly. My teaching style is based on the saying, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." Also, creating a friendly and relaxed…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are threefold: - offering explanations of and guidance for specific topics and skills - matching the learning levels of the student whereas the content discussed should neither be too easy nor too demanding - tutoring in a non-judgemental fashion whereas failures are treated as…

In my opinion, there are several important things that a tutor can do to help their students succeed. First and foremost, providing personalized attention and support is essential. By working one-on-one with my students, I can tailor my teaching methods and strategies to meet their unique needs and learning styles. This helps to ensure that they…

To listen and understand their own difficulty and try to help them in a way, that only works for that particular student. I can break down tough concepts into small bits that are much more easier to understand while ensuring ech bit is easily connectible to others, such that the student can get the whole picture but in clearer…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is neither explaining to them the concepts nor giving them the solutions to the problems, but rather, guiding them so that they can find the solutions on their own. By doing that, the tutors don't just help the students with those particular problems, but they also help the students…

In order to establish a good relationship, the tutor must be an energetic person, someone with a lot of enthusiasm with respect to human interactions. This interest will certainly have a positive impact on a child discouraged by the school and his or her bad grades. Through his or her good mood and motivation, the tutor will be a model for…

Inside AsquithTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Emily practised writing equivalent fractions and solving for missing numbers in fraction equations.

In Year 8, Cameron worked through straight line graphs—covering y = mx + b, x and y intercepts—and completed a review of his recent exam.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jess focused on trigonometry with school homework using SOH CAH TOA, as well as applying the sine and cosine rules to solve problems involving non-right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3, a student hesitated to answer even when correct, as one tutor noted: "She felt unsure of herself and her answer even if right," which slowed participation in times tables work.

A Year 8 student's written solutions in algebra missed key steps; as the tutor put it, "working out wasn't shown systematically," so small errors went undetected until review.

In senior grades, one student struggled to break down multi-step trigonometry problems—attempting whole questions at once led to confusion over formulas and layout.

Another forgot formula sheets at home, making practice incomplete and feedback harder to apply during revision.

Recent Achievements

One Asquith tutor noticed a Year 8 student who used to skip steps when solving equations now showing every stage of their working without reminders, making fewer errors as a result.

In a recent session with a Year 10 student, the tutor observed her choosing the correct formula for trigonometry problems independently—something she hesitated to attempt last term.

Meanwhile, during primary sessions, one younger learner who previously guessed answers in times tables drills began pausing to work them out methodically before responding. The same lesson finished with him tackling mixed multiplication questions without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Hornsby Shire Library & Information Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like Asquith Public School.
