What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most is seeing the moment when something finally clicks for a student. I like taking a problem that initially seems difficult, approaching it from a few different angles and finding an explanation that makes sense to that particular student.
I also enjoy seeing the longer-term change in confidence. When a student who previously avoided a certain type of question starts attempting it independently, that is much more rewarding to me than simply helping them get one question right.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my biggest strength is being able to break complicated ideas down without making the student feel like they should already understand them. I am patient and comfortable explaining the same concept in different ways until I find an approach that works for the student.
I also tend to focus on the reasoning behind an answer rather than just showing students what to do. My background in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science has taught me to approach unfamiliar problems systematically, and my experience working with students has taught me how to adapt that
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing is to make a student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes and admit when they don't understand something. Without that, it is difficult to identify the real gaps in their understanding.
From there, a tutor should build genuine understanding rather than simply help a student get through their homework. The goal should be to gradually make the student more independent, so they can approach a new problem without immediately needing someone to give them the answer. Building confidence alongside knowledge is a big part of that.
