A tutors primary role is to ensure the students understands the content. In my experience this is not as simple as it sounds, as many students are taught how to answer questions rather then being taught mathematics; abstracting difficult concepts into simpler forms, through the use of analogies and other explanatory methods is key in allowing a…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them because the student is the one who knows what they're struggling with and they are the ones who are going to tell me what they need to learn. Furthermore, I think it is important to teach students how to learn and study so that they can keep learning and working…

They created this whole new world for me where I was welcomed to ask as many questions as I could. With Ezy, I strive to create all these new worlds that kids would come to love one day. My persistence and can-do attitude. I never…

Motivate. If a tutor can motivate a student to do whatever they want, The student will succeed in life. Motivation won't only drive my students to improve in mathematics but also other subjects. Other than knowing my mathematics, I believe I am an easy teacher. I make the work look easy for the students, so their mentality towards the work is…

That does not merely mean helping the student to solve a problem but also building up their confidence and provide them a method that they could use for themselves in the future. My strength would be a strong background of…

Helping students improve or maintain their grades, along with teaching extremely valuable lessons is the most important thing I can do for a student. Taking a note from those around me who've helped me grow academically and personally, I strongly believe patience and honesty are the highest qualities in a teacher-student relationship. Giving constructive feedback without gloss nor unnecessary severity is key to helping the recipient grow and progress, which won't always take a linear path. As…

For me, I think the comfortable study atmosphere is vital for the student. The student will not be able to study efficiently in anxiety. Sometimes a student might know the knowledge, but they are too stressful or not confident to write it out. Providing a comfortable study atmosphere for them will be helpful. Also, it is significant to answer the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to establish their confidence, give them the attention, teach the most efficient strategies to succeed in the exam with the least lessons. I think a tutor should be capable of answering any questions discussing any uncertainties that a student may have. These should be explained clearly and if the student does not understand initially, the tutor should continue to explain in alternate ways (e.g. rewording sentences and visual aids such as diagrams) until the student understands. In…

Inside BarangarooTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Ava focused on advanced trigonometry by reviewing her recent test and then moved on to polynomials, tackling chapter exercises and logs.

Year 10 student Tom worked through several lessons on quadratics and linear relations, with sessions dedicated to solving worded problems using algebraic methods.

For a Year 3 primary student, time was spent practising addition and subtraction strategies as well as developing reading comprehension skills through short passages.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student repeatedly avoided writing full working for rearranging equations—"she said, 'I just get stuck at the start,' and would hesitate to begin unless prompted."

In a senior English assignment, another left their TEEL structure incomplete and was reluctant to link arguments back to topic sentences, resulting in an unfinished draft.

A Year 11 student struggled with domain and range because revision focused only on familiar problems rather than tackling new question types; this left them underprepared for tests requiring flexible thinking.

After setbacks, confidence dropped sharply and questions went unasked, making progress slower than expected.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Barangaroo recently noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitation, started tackling circle geometry questions on her own and now attempts problems independently before asking for help.

In a Year 12 session, Martina made real progress—she stopped relying on example solutions and now remembers formulas well enough to solve algebraic fraction questions without prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously stumbled over reading tasks managed to read an entire short paragraph aloud and explain its meaning without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Customs House Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Fort Street Public School.
