Its also by creating a safe environment where the student feels like they can ask you any question without fear, as this sometimes is not possible in a classroom or group setting I am very patient,…

I have this preconceived notion that both mentoring and tutoring have the same purpose, and that is to help a student learn. As someone who is well-read in the sciences, I always rationalize the factors that inhibit a student’s learning process. With that said, I always aim to clear those learning inhibitors if they are within my capacity. Upon…

I believe that tutors should be reliable in providing consistent support to their students via answering as many questions as possible and adjusting lessons to weaker topics. Things like these are essential to supplement their growth in learning. I am someone who is patient and enthusiastic, having a younger brother has taught me to be resilient…

A tutor can teach a student with the best dedication until both are satisfied, with calmness and enthusiasm. There is no space for faster actions or rapidness in this field. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be interactive and form a relationship with the student. A tutor needs to understand their student so they can be more effective. This also makes learning fun for the student I feel I am able to break down problems in such a way that students can understand them easily. I am also…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. The most important things a tutor can do for a student involve making the student understand the concepts at a deep level, rather than tutoring them solely for the purpose of achieving higher grades. I believe a good tutor should remove the fear of a subject, if any, from a student's mind and encourage them to learn in more detail, while providing…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. This is something I personally found…

Not give the answers but help support the learning process and give guidance when the child needs it most. Inside Bass HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Alessandro worked on turning improper fractions into mixed numbers and solved word problems involving basic operations.

Year 7 student Sarah focused on linear equations, including solving for unknowns and representing relationships using graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Daniel revised trigonometric ratios to find unknown sides in right-angled triangles and practiced applying bearings in real-world navigation scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, one student's written work was flagged as "presentation of answers needed improvement"—for example, omitting brackets when multiplying negatives led to confusion and reworking.

A Year 10 student relied heavily on a calculator for basic index laws, which masked underlying gaps ("efficiency in using calculator is a plus," but errors persisted when the calculator wasn't available).

In Year 3 maths, another student struggled to keep working neat and often misplaced digits when carrying over in multi-digit addition; this slowed down problem-solving and sometimes resulted in repeated corrections rather than steady progress.

Recent Achievements

One Bass Hill tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who used to stay quiet during lessons—this week, he asked questions proactively, instead of guessing and moving on.

A Year 11 student had struggled with factorising non-monic equations but, after several sessions, was able to work through them independently and even explained her method out loud.

Meanwhile, in primary school maths, one student who'd hesitated over mixed fractions before is now confidently adding them with the same denominator and even picked up improper fractions without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bass High School.
