I think the most important thing is to help the student to develop the approach of thinking on which the student can build up his/her knowledge and manage all the variations that will be encountered. This is especially true for Mathematics and science subjects. Another important thing that I can achieve with the student is to have a concrete…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make sure that the student understands the concepts thoroughly. Not just a few questions or math problems, but the concept is the most important to get through. As a tutor it's a crucial job to make a base for the student, as this is the foundation for the student which needs to be really…

In my opinion, the most valuable thing that a tutor can do for the student is to bring his/her interest to learn about anything in academic subjects. Most of the students nowadays are more keen on social media postings and playing online games. Sometimes, they forgot how important the academic knowledge in their lives. So, bring back the student's…

I believe a tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother. My main…

Inside Bass HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Alessandro worked on turning improper fractions into mixed numbers and solved word problems involving basic operations.

Year 7 student Sarah focused on linear equations, including solving for unknowns and representing relationships using graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Daniel revised trigonometric ratios to find unknown sides in right-angled triangles and practiced applying bearings in real-world navigation scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 algebra, one student's written work was flagged as "presentation of answers needed improvement"—for example, omitting brackets when multiplying negatives led to confusion and reworking.

A Year 10 student relied heavily on a calculator for basic index laws, which masked underlying gaps ("efficiency in using calculator is a plus," but errors persisted when the calculator wasn't available).

In Year 3 maths, another student struggled to keep working neat and often misplaced digits when carrying over in multi-digit addition; this slowed down problem-solving and sometimes resulted in repeated corrections rather than steady progress.

Recent Achievements

One Bass Hill tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 9 student who used to stay quiet during lessons—this week, he asked questions proactively, instead of guessing and moving on.

A Year 11 student had struggled with factorising non-monic equations but, after several sessions, was able to work through them independently and even explained her method out loud.

Meanwhile, in primary school maths, one student who'd hesitated over mixed fractions before is now confidently adding them with the same denominator and even picked up improper fractions without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bass High School.
