I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is encouraging them to understand the importance of putting time and effort to improve their grades. This will prepare them for the future and prove to them that hard work yields results. I am patient and adapt my teaching style according to the student. I am optimistic and…

From my experience, the desire to learn and succeed must come from within, but once that feeling is there it is the tutor's responsibility to cultivate and grow this passion and to translate it into continuous improvement. Hence, one of the most important things that a tutor can do is understand the student's needs and to meet those needs in a…

A tutor can spend time with students so that they can understand what the problem is. Moreover, a tutor is a person with whom every student feels safe, and they share everything, so the tutor must be calm and teach everything in a fun way. My strengths as a tutor are that I am a well-organized individual, and I develop my own ways of teaching for…

Gives more confidence and patience, in explainng the concept of maths to the student. Cheer the students in a good way upon solving the given question. My strength is explaining the concepts in Maths to the students at a low level so that the student can understand the concept in the section. Furthermore, working at the elementary levels, and…

In my opinion, a tutor has to be able to communicate effectively with a student. There is a clear difference between having knowledge and actually being able to teach a particular field of study. It is absolutely vital that a tutor speaks to a student in a way that is easily understood by the student but at the same time also engaging. This way of…

The sole priority of the tutor is to do anything they can to continually further the skills and success of their student. However this has to be achieved in a reasonable way. Every student has a different learning style and a different ability level. I am able to adapt the way I tutor to suit these different styles and ensure the proper…

Inside BeckenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack practised addition and subtraction of hundreds, as well as solving basic word problems involving carrying numbers.

Year 9 student Sarah focused on factorisation and graphing quadratics, including finding the roots and sketching graphs by hand.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas worked through algebraic expansion and factorisation using different methods, with extra attention given to tackling challenging test-style questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Maths, calculator input errors and missed negative signs ("Needs to ensure the input in the calculator is correct") led to avoidable mistakes on algebra questions—one tutor noted, "she lost marks when a negative sign was overlooked."

For a Year 11 English student, over-reliance on copying text instead of paraphrasing limited essay clarity and structure.

In Year 4, messy handwriting and writing outside given spaces made it difficult for teachers to follow working.

A Year 6 student sometimes avoided sounding out unfamiliar words, skipping them during reading tasks. This left gaps in understanding and confidence mid-lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Beckenham recently noticed a Year 10 student who had previously hesitated to express original ideas now starting to write answers in their own words, moving away from simply copying the text.

In a high school maths session, another student who often struggled with logical problem-solving managed to structure their answers clearly after just some guided hints.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to need frequent reminders about spelling has begun spelling out words independently when shown once and can now name various places without any prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cannington Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gibbs Street Primary School.
