The most important thing I believe a physics tutor can do for a students is to instill self-confidence in the student because a student that is confident will be more resilient to adversity and be more likely to solve problems by themselves. My strengths would be that I have gone through the Australian school system and have encountered similar…

the most important thing that a physics tutor can do for a student, is to teach the how to learn content, it is to teach them to be self sufficient, switched on and motivated. It is to make the canvas blank before filling it with knowledge that is new and unknown. My ideology for tutoring is to teach a kid how to learn and then make him or her…

My strength is that i encourage students to…

Provide motivation and help develop a passion (or at least an appreciation) for Mathematics. Success would be more likely if the student is enjoying the subject matter. Furthering this; to teach the student confidence in their abilities and eventually be more independent in thier learning/study. It is also important that a physics tutor understand…

A tutor must be able to connect with the student on many different levels whilst in the mean time also convey the concepts and ideas of the curriculum. Beyond the required academic support, I believe a physics tutor should inspire curiosity and a love for learning, thus helping students to build skills that span beyond the subject matter. Inside Belgrave SouthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 Daniel focused on multiplication skills and times tables, along with tackling fraction concepts such as adding and simplifying, and also explored practical financial maths like budgeting.

Year 10 Isaac spent lessons analysing scenes from "The Princess Bride" for cinematic techniques and practiced writing structured paragraphs for political cartoon analysis in English.

Meanwhile, Further Maths student Luan worked through linear regression lines and finance topics, using exam questions to reinforce understanding of transformations and financial calculations.

Recent Challenges

In senior English, one student's essays often lacked depth because planning was rushed—he needs to come up with ideas and topic sentences faster when planning his essay, a tutor noted.

During VCE maths sessions, difficulty applying formulas in unfamiliar questions slowed progress; too much time was spent rereading rather than breaking down problems step by step.

In Year 6, another learner avoided harder revision tasks and stuck to familiar material, missing out on the chance to strengthen weaker areas.

When handwriting was unclear or spelling inconsistent in creative writing (Year 7), meaning sometimes got lost for the reader mid-task.

Recent Achievements

One Belgrave South tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to rush through essays now pausing to proofread and refine paragraphs—last session, he independently spotted and fixed awkward phrasing before moving on.

In Year 8 maths, a student who previously needed reminders for each formula began selecting the right methods without prompting, especially during worded problems.

Meanwhile, in primary school, Daniel's times tables recall has sped up dramatically; using flash cards and games, he can now answer most multiplication questions correctly on his first try—something he hesitated with just weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belgrave Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Belgrave South Primary School.
