Helping them feel to comfortable to make mistakes, and then to learn from said mistakes. I think that fear of failure is one of the big issues in learning, because if you are scared to try something even if you're unsure, you'll never be able to learn and succeed. I am very personable, and able to meet people where they are at. I am…

Most importantly, the tutor should be able to help the student achieve their desired academic results whilst under the tutor's tutelage, as this is the whole purpose of being a tutor. However, it is almost equally important to instill confidence in a student, that they will feel comfortable enough to step out of their comfort zones. More often…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to take personal time out to teach not only teach the subject but also the real life applications of the subjects. My strengths as a tutor mostly rely on how patient I can be. I generally work as an educator at kindergarten my work experience helps me to break down complex concepts and…

The Tutor should have a lot of patience while teaching children, as each child is different from one other. Tutor should understand each student's ability and talent and motivate them to do further in their own field. It should be the tutor's job to go to each student individually and ask if they are good with study materials and understanding…

I think it is extremely important for a tutor to be adaptable. Different students have differing learning styles and needs, and therefore, to help different students, you need to be able to tailor your tutoring to individualised approaches. Furthermore, rather than just giving the children the answers, as a tutor it is important to be able to help…

To be there as a support structure, not just a tutor that's only available during the assigned time. A tutor is really another support avenue for a student's education is what I've found in my experience as both a tutor and a student frequenting tutors. Another key aspect of a tutor is to be able to not only build the knowledge of the student…

Tutors can support other educators to help students learn how to learn. 1-on-1 support can help shed light on the exact nature of any obstacles a student might experience, which might be missed in a group classroom setting. Being an inspirational character. A tutor has to encourage his/her students always. During a semester/course, there will be certain times when students will lose interests for a poor mark (may be), or a personal problem. A tutor can't force a student to complete a session because it has to! A friendly approach can be helpful sometimes as well.…

I see a tutor as someone who can motivate students to learn and build the students' confidence to recognize their strengths. Listen to what the student has to say, and base their teaching strategy around their individual needs. Inside BellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan worked on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, using diagrams for visual understanding.

Year 8 student Olivia focused on indices—practising both positive and negative indices—and revisited measurement concepts including perimeter of circles.

For Year 10, Jacob tackled linear equations and trigonometry basics such as identifying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly guessed answers in maths rather than working them out on paper, with one tutor noting, "He got up several times to play basketball during class."

In Year 10, forgetting to bring textbooks and materials made it difficult to review past challenges—"She needed to bring her maths books so I could see what she had struggled with this week."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student ran out of time on an exam, missing simple errors due to poor planning. These habits led to lost marks and missed opportunities for targeted feedback in each session.

Recent Achievements

A Bellfield tutor noticed Ollie, a Year 10 student, recently made fewer mistakes on area and perimeter problems by slowing down and using the standard formula they created together—he used to rush through and miss key steps.

In another session, Kiera (Year 11) moved from relying on hints to working through challenging English essay planning almost entirely independently, making her own quote lists for the first time.

Meanwhile, Felix in primary school finally started applying punctuation correctly in his writing without reminders after weeks of forgetting full stops.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
