The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is constantly support them and provide them with positive reinforcement because if they are to lose motivation then they will not fully apply themselves and strive to learn more. So I believe that even for minor achievements students must be congratulated and encouraged to further improve their…

Strictly in terms of ATAR, to help students do and understand past exams so when the real exams come, they would feel less stressed and more "at home" with the topics being examined, whilst being able to manage time well due to them having done similar past exam questions as routine. But in terms of tutoring, actually helping the student…

The most important things a tutor can do are to build a supportive learning environment, encourage curiosity, and help students believe in their ability to succeed. A tutor should not only teach the content but also guide students to become independent learners who feel confident tackling challenges on their own. I am patient, understanding, and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is recognise their efforts and reassure them; encouraging them rather than scolding mistakes. I can recognise when students are unsure of topics or are too shy to ask for help. In recognising this, I revisit the topic till I'm sure they're certain how to approach the problem from all…

A tutor must be well prepared and organised, prepared in not just knowing the material in and out so that they can teach confidently but also being able to provide the necessary material for the student beforehand which can maximise how much the student takes away. So thoughtfully planning the tutoring session beforehand or being familiar with…

A tutor's primary aim is to instill confidence in the student. Students seek tutors for a variety of reasons. Maybe the student is struggling and needs someone to explain things more clearly. A wise and patient tutor will do that, and the student will feel more confident; that they can do it! Some students come to tutoring with no real problems,…

I would say the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is helping them grow as individuals, and help them find a love for learning - a strong passion for the academic studies. A tutor needs to also serve as a good role model for the students, and be a person the student can trust to help them improve their grades. I would say my…

Guiding the student if they need help, but leaving most of the problem solving up to them so that student builds a deeper understanding of the content and creates the connections rather than just memorising information. I'm very knowledgeable in the subjects I teach, and I have useful study techniques that can help my students. I also understand…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student to is support the student to the best of their abilities and to also believe in the student. Supporting the student to the best of their abilities means that the student will have more assistance for their tutors to achieve their goals. And we as tutors must believe in the abilities…

For me, the two things that aided me most when I was being tutored in highschool were practice questions given to me by tutors and when these tutors took their time to really deconstruct these concepts until I fully understood them. My biggest strength is patience. Sometimes it takes students a long time to begin to understand certain concepts and…

In my opinion, the most vital thing that can be done is to teach students a learning pattern they can follow so they can develop their problem solving skills and learn from their mistakes. A tutor should provide what a teacher can't. There is a reason that students seek tutoring, and it is therefore a tutor's role to meet their needs. I believe patience is the most important thing. Not everyone thinks the same, and its important for a tutor to understand this, and to move at a pace that suits the student, whilst also challenging…

The most important things to do as a tutor for a student is to make sure that the student fully understands the concept being taught to them, and there are several ways to ensure this. Inside Bibra LakeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Aiden worked on analysing poetic techniques such as alliteration and assonance within set class poems, and practised interpreting themes in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.

In Year 10, Tom focused on applying simultaneous equations to textbook problems and reviewed angles and bearings based on current classwork.

For Year 11, Harry tackled normal distributions and probability calculations using assignment questions, along with revising core concepts from recent assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 English, a student struggled to plan and complete body paragraphs ahead of assessment deadlines—one note read, "should've finished at least one of the body paragraphs as the assessment is due in only a few days."

In Year 8 Maths, another repeatedly avoided writing out working on paper, relying instead on mental calculation; this made it hard to spot where errors crept in.

Organization emerged as a challenge for a Year 11 student who was unaware of upcoming test dates and lost key notes needed for revision.

Missed planning steps or incomplete preparation often left them feeling behind during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Bibra Lake tutor noticed that a Year 11 student, Harry, has shifted from just plugging numbers into his calculator to wanting to understand the "why" behind each maths process—he now checks over his answers and identifies errors himself.

In English, Aiden (Year 9) has moved beyond surface-level reading; he's started drawing creative inferences from texts and can now break down tricky literary techniques on the spot—last week he wrote an original metaphor for a messy park without prompting.

Meanwhile, Tom (Year 6), who used to rush through problems, is pausing to talk out loud about questions and writing out his thought process as he solves them.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Coolbellup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bibra Lake Primary School.
