The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to effectively teach them the concepts of the problem, so that the student can tackle any other problems with similar requirements by themselves I think that as a tutor I would be able to properly and effectively teach students concepts, and assist them in all capacities, as I would say that…

The ability to not judge the student's level of knowledge in a subject and be keen on helping them is very important as a tutor. A tutor also needs to adhere to the learning needs of the student. If a student needs more help in a topic compared to others, i think its important to cater to that and not ignore it. Not being overly authoritative is…

I believe that since every student is different in the way they think and learn, it is important for a tutor to establish a connection and relationship with their students so the tutor can better understand the students habits. This would allow the tutor to better tailor their lessons towards the student so they learn and understand better. I have…

I believe being able to provide a dependable and welcoming support system for a student is one of the most important things a tutor should do. However, it was because I was able to turn to my tutors, who I…

I believe a tutor is there to guide and support a student to their best of their ability so that they may achieve the goals that they wish to reach. In doing so, a tutor should be patient and adaptive in their teaching approach, to allow students to push their own limits and unlock their full academic potential. I consider myself a very flexible…

Listen to their ideas and help them realise how they can be moulded to fit the criteria that is set for them to meet. This is also coming from my own perspective of what I'd expect, as most times teachers impose their ideas on students and they are left alone to not be able to think for themselves. I can explain concepts quite well, and I make…

My greatest asset as a tutor would be my ability to really zone in on any problems a student may have in particular. Inside BlacktownTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Josh worked on converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as calculating GST and understanding price changes.

In Year 9, Chloe revised Pythagoras' theorem alongside practice with coordinate geometry—specifically finding midpoints and distances between points using diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Abby tackled genetic technologies for an assessment task, breaking down the implications of gene therapy for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and clarifying the relationship between genotypes and phenotypes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without a textbook or reference materials, making it difficult to engage fully with the lesson content.

In Year 9, one student struggled to keep up with classwork and admitted to not completing assignments on time—"he has not been keeping up with class work which is something we need to work on."

For a Year 11 Biology session, messy note-taking and trouble organizing research made revision harder; she often forgot definitions and key terms during review.

In senior years, difficulties in breaking down exam questions led to hesitation when answering under timed conditions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Blacktown recently noticed some great progress with students across different year levels.

In Year 4 maths, Chloe had struggled to remember her times tables, but after steady practice, she could recall the 7 and 8 times tables from memory and applied them to fraction problems with much more ease than before.

At the high school level, Josh moved from needing step-by-step help to solving most trigonometry questions independently; last session he even corrected his own mistakes without prompting.

Meanwhile, Abby began structuring her biology assessment responses more clearly after learning to highlight key words for each dot point.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown.
