Why would you ever need to know about combustion, corrosion, and electrochemical processes? Most students wonder about that too, especially if they don't plan on going into science.
Chemistry can seem abstract, learning about elements and matter, how equilibrium occurs and how chemical systems react. No wonder students get discouraged.
All it takes for a student to go from a mild distaste for chemistry to understanding what is scribbled in the textbook is someone to point out what to avoid and where to put in that extra hour of revision. It's like with any problem situation in schooling and even in their personal life, students need to know about using effective strategies. Then all you need is persistence, staying on task until you reach your goal.

The proof is always in the action, to get an idea of how tutoring works in practice check out some feedback from tutors. Typically tutors focus on strategies needed to make progress, what's going well and what needs improvement. Of course, every tutor has their own unique style that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
Daisy is slowly developing good habits in terms of learning strategies. This is an area of focus which takes time and patience to develop. From our sessions, I can see an improvement in formatting questions, resulting in less mistakes made. Daisy always corrects her work and back checks to ensure she's on the right path to solving the question. All being said, there is still definitely room for improvement, which develops over time.
Steph's work habit are mixed, I believe when she is confident she is constant and completes the work, where as when she finds it hard and believes she can't complete the work, she doesn't complete the work assigned. This is also true of her work in class, however I am hoping moving back to the Monday timeslot will help with this. I have also introduced the sticker chart and am hoping as she achieves, this will increase her confidence and therefore the effort she puts in.
Major thing to work at will be speed and accuracy in recognising a question and what is required to answer it throroughly. The knowledge to solve the question is there, just need to work on the connection.
Andrew had his last week with Cameron this Saturday, Cameron has been an excellent tutor, he is very tuned in to maths specialist, and has helped Andrew greatly in his learning.
Georgette, Luiz's tutor is amazing and we would like her to continue if possible over the school summer holidays.
Lauren has only had a couple of sessions with Nirvan but the benefits were instant & she has really valued his tutoring which has given her more confidence in her capabilities as well. Nirvan seems an exceptional young man & his polite manner & tutoring style are a credit to him. We have been very pleased with the quality, prompt & ease of arrangements & would like to utilise your services again next year.
