As a tutor, I believe the most important thing I can do for a student is to create a safe and supportive learning environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. This engaging and safe environment allows for open communication and a deeper understanding of the material. I've experienced countless hostile learning…

Give them confidence- either to have a crack at new questions or topics, or just continue to work and learn independently. Usually this is achieved by helping students find a way to enjoy the subject. I'm a good communicator and very empathetic. I've always been told I'd be an excellent teacher- my habit is to always make sure a tutee has…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to listen to the student, as well as teaching. Encouraging the student to provide their input on a topic without having any pretentious predelection will allow the student to become more confident in their learning. I have the ability to gage the student's difficulty and work with them from that level.…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to explan or simply the difficult concepts in a manner the student understands, and to build their confidence while doing a problem in which they are likely to make mistakes and also teaching them how to be patient if they are unable to solve something and how to go on forward from that…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen. I believe listening is very important since if you don't listen to your student, or get them to explain concepts for themselves, you won't be able to deduce which areas to focus on. One of my weaknesses as a tutor would have to be that if my student is having difficulty,…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them build their skills so that they can efficiently study. I also think a tutor should be able to teach students how to effectively study and implement study techniques. Adjusting their teaching style to suit the way that student learns. Sometimes, explaining the content for a long time will work, but most of the time it doesn't. Support their learning without giving away the answers easily so that the student can actually practice while supervised. This not only and proves their understanding, but also allows them to go through all of the processes in problem solving so that they form their own framework to comprehend the subject matter. It is important to do this while…

I strongly believe all students learn differently and have their own unique study methods, therefore it is important for a tutor to adjust to the student's needs and personalise the study session. However, I also consider it useful that tutors help develop new study habits and introduce new ways to learn whilst tutoring in a way that the student…

Instead of just teaching the student how to solve just one problem, it is better to teach them the skills required to approach any and all problems. Problem…

Local Reviews

Easy to organise a tutor, and the tutor we got is so great with my 9 year old. Patient and very knowledgeable, and most importantly is really helping my daughter catch up and feel more confident with maths. Thank you!
Linda, Boondall

Inside BoondallTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Georgia focused on creative writing for an English assignment and prepared for upcoming Shakespeare assessments.

Year 12 student Olivia practised drawing ray diagrams and applied formulas for period, frequency, and wavelength in Physics.

Meanwhile, another Year 12, Noah, reviewed concepts of black body radiation and the double-slit experiment to deepen understanding of quantum phenomena.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived with almost no school resources, making it hard to build on recent classwork; as a tutor noted, "had she gathered all her resources, the lesson would've been smoother."

In Year 12 Physics, one student repeatedly forgot to bring a charged computer, which meant lost time accessing materials and completing tasks.

For a Year 6 maths learner, reluctance to write out working led to confusion when mistakes occurred—reminders helped her see where things went wrong.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 science, distraction from upcoming assessments made it difficult to stay focused on current tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Boondall recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to avoid asking for help now regularly prepares thoughtful questions before each session, showing a real shift toward independent learning.

In Year 9 maths, one student began using her formula sheet unprompted and checked her working without reminders—a big change from needing constant reassurance last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often hesitated on multiplication tests managed to complete all problems solo this week, even when feeling unwell. She finished every question accurately and didn't give up halfway through the task.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandgate Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boondall State School.
