Not just tutor them, but be a friend. By opening up and developing a closer bond to students, the students feel more comfortable and it doesn't become a tutoring session, but just a study session. I went through the course(s) myself quite recently, so I understand what's expected on the students, and what they need to do to excel and not only get…

Effective communication is essential. This includes being able to explain concepts clearly and in a way that is easy to understand and being a good listener. Additionally, the ability to empathize with students and understand their challenges and frustrations can make a big difference in how they respond to tutoring. Tutoring often involves…

The most important things is for a tutor to help a student to come to a place where they enjoy the experience of learning rather than see it as a chore. I am very good at communicating complex ideas using simple…

Be able to explain in a way that the student can understand and be able to take that knowledge outside and be able to do problems by themself with confidance in themselves. I am young and would be able to understand students on a personal level and able to explain concepts and material in a way they would be able to understand, my weaknesses would…

Other than helping a student genuinely understand the content in their course, I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for them is to help them in developing and implementing strategies to allow them to become independently successful. This may mean developing a better organisational process, implementing a system for completing tasks…

Inside BungaloraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Willow focused on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions as well as converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions using step-by-step written problems.

For Year 9, Jeremy reviewed Pythagoras' Theorem and practised working with frequency tables and histograms in preparation for upcoming exams.

Meanwhile, Mia (Year 10) worked on scatterplots—drawing graphs accurately and analysing data for correlation strength and variable types.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student entered exam revision sessions without organizing materials or preparing for in-depth questions, remarking, "I tried to prepare for the basics in all the curriculum that I wasn't prepared for the in depth exam questions." This lack of targeted preparation led to confusion during advanced problem-solving.

In Year 8 maths, a student repeatedly left working steps out of algebra problems—making it difficult to spot and correct sign errors later.

Meanwhile, a primary student forgot her exercise book and couldn't complete area calculations during one lesson; time was lost sourcing paper instead of practicing new skills.

Recent Achievements

One Bungalora tutor recently noticed Jeremy now spots and corrects his own algebra mistakes—whereas before he'd need step-by-step prompting.

Willow, also in high school, has started choosing the right fraction strategies without hesitation; just a few weeks ago she'd freeze unless guided through each step.

Meanwhile, Bella in Year 6 surprised her tutor by asking for extra homework on grammar—something she previously avoided—and completed a tricky spelling challenge at home after initially doubting herself.

Last session ended with Jeremy confidently working through all the Pythagoras' questions without needing reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Kingscliff Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Terranora Public School.
