I think it is to create a supportive environment where a student can feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions, all the while improving in each step. My biggest strength is breaking difficult concepts into smaller steps. I try to explain why we do each step rather than just memorising formulas without understanding them. Once students…

To be there to support the student academically and psychologically. Tutoring is a more private setting than teaching in school, I will get to know more about the students and connect with them on a deeper level. This enables me to assist them on their journey of growing up, helping them with their study and listen to their struggles if they are…

I believe a tutor is a person who is there to support, guide and encourage students to not just settle for an easy answer but question and discover new things. I believe tutors should allow students to embrace their mistakes and learn from them, and use their failures as experiences. I try different methods with students who are unable to grasp a…

To truly let the students to understand concepts. Yes, achieving high marks and grades is important, but it shouldn't override the understanding of concepts in curriculums. Not only allowing students to have the ability to effectively answer exam questions, but also most importantly to let them recognise how these knowledge points can connect from…

I should be able to make learning fun for the student and make the student feel more confident while dealing with the subject. The student might slowly develop liking for the subject if they find it easy and interesting. The most important task that should be done is that the concept is clear for the student such that they don't ever feel the…

A student can receive individual attention from a tutor. There is no other student like in a classroom and hence the student can communicate easily with the tutor and clear their doubts in a more personalised manner. The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to allow their minds to create their own version of knowledge rather than just gaining a pre-existing idea. It's only when we challenge the students to think out of the box that they actually start realising the importance of what was in the box. Giving them a vivid imagination can be a…

With one to one teaching a tutor can help a student on a deeper level than in a classroom setting, allowing them to feel they can ask about anything they're not sure on without any fear of the rest of the class judging them. I think the most important role of the tutor is to analyse and reflect on a student's learning and problem-solving approach methods, in order to provide meaningful adjustments for greater comfort and confidence going forward. In other words, the identification of barriers to learning is the most crucial point of a tutor's action, as it is the…

Local Reviews

We had a very good experience with Ezy Math. They were very proactive and great to deal with. When the first tutor we hired didn't work for us, we requested a change and they were quick to find us a replacement who was excellent. Jenny Wong is a great math Tutor and was kind, compassionate, patient and excellent at tutoring Maths. My daughter really benefited greatly and built much confidence and did well under her tutoring. Ezy Math regularly ask for feedback to see how things are going and are happy to work with you to make sure you have right tutor for your child.

Inside CamberwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Adele worked on operations with decimals, including multiplying and dividing them, and practised applying place value concepts to support accuracy.

Year 7 student Mia reviewed algebraic expressions—simplifying, factorising, and expanding brackets—and explored multiplying exponents with the same base using step-by-step written explanations.

Meanwhile, Jaidan in Year 8 focused on mastering Pythagoras' theorem by breaking down the formula's application to right-angled triangles and also spent time reviewing his recent test to address specific misunderstandings in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, one student often guessed answers for worded division problems or larger multiplication facts instead of working them out, saying "it's too hard" before attempting. This led to repeated confusion with remainders and symbol meanings.

In Year 7, another student rushed mental arithmetic rather than writing clear steps—"he prefers rushing through his working rather than writing it out step by step," a tutor noted—which made it difficult to track down errors in negative number calculations.

By Year 10 algebra, skipping written working meant sign errors went unnoticed until results were checked at the end, leading to frustration when mistakes accumulated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Camberwell noticed Jayden's answers have become more structured and thorough—he now explains each step in algebraic problems, rather than just giving the final answer.

Jaidan, a high school student who previously struggled with Pythagoras' theorem, was able to spot where he'd gone wrong on his last test and corrected his approach when reviewing practice questions.

Meanwhile, Mia has started asking for clarification instead of skipping tricky worded maths problems; this shift means she now completes most multi-step questions independently, including finding 10% off prices and calculating change with decimals.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Girls Grammar School.
