What I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a healthy and suitable learning environment. One that motivates students to learn and to be able to confidently apply the knowledge they are taught both in and outside the classroom. Also since students are more likely to do better when they feel encouraged and…

I believe it is highly important to listen to your students. All students learn in different ways, if the method used to teach the student is not effective it is very important to switch strategies in order to ensure the student gets the most out of the lesson. I want all my students to enjoy our sessions and see it to be beneficial to their own…

My dream is simple. I want to guide students in a way that goes beyond text books. It's not just about math or science, but the life skills like mindset, the joy of learning, and the art of studying. I believe every tutor should make learning feel a little fun, showing kids that it can be fun and that it isn't boring, which is what is important…

The teachers beyond simply imparting information to their students, I believe the main purpose of tutoring is to helping students help and motivate themselves. The other important thing is to guide them to the point where the students can become independent learners. communication and social skills. patience, responsibility, tolerance. ability…

A tutor is more than a teacher. A teachers job is to give a student a base level of understanding whereas a tutor can build on that and go further. This allows students to revisit sections that the teacher brushed over or to build on sections they seemingly understand to ensure they can answer a greater range of question types. Along with the…

I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

The most important thing is to make sure that the student doesn't feel overwhelmed with their workload, and instead has fun (or at least doesn't detest the time spent) while studying. In this regard, the tutor has to make the content interesting and tailor it to each individual if it's one-on-one. I'm very patient in explaining concepts. I also…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I believe in creating an environment where students feel…

I think the best thing a tutor can do is make learning feel achievable. A big part of that is adapting to how each student learns, breaking things down in a way that makes sense to them, and giving them the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Tutoring isn't just about getting through the syllabus, it's about showing students how to think…

The most important thing a tutor can do wouldn't be to have the answers to every question they have. It would be to teach a student properly so they understand the task properly, so that in the future, they can do it by themselves. It is important to teach students that mistakes often occur and these are crucial, as it allows us to recognise…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. Inside CammerayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 students like Olivia revised perimeter and volume, tackling practice problems and textbook exercises to solidify their understanding; meanwhile, Year 10 student Ethan worked through algebraic fractions and practiced factoring trinomials to improve his manipulation of expressions.

For Year 11, Sam focused on differential calculus using the power rule and also applied the chain rule in various function-based questions for exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written work in algebra was hard to follow—presentation made it difficult to spot errors or track working, as a tutor noted: "Her layout in solving equations was messy and steps were easy to miss."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student preparing for advanced maths tended to rely heavily on formulas rather than building intuitive understanding during trigonometry revision.

In Year 7, late homework submission and incomplete practice questions led to weaker recall of volume concepts.

For a senior (Year 12) student, discouragement after a tough exam meant feedback wasn't always reviewed, slowing improvement in graphing skills.

Recent Achievements

One Cammeray tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after weeks of hesitation, completed textbook calculus exercises entirely without guidance for the first time.

In Year 8 maths, another student who previously needed reminders to double-check answers started working through multi-step equations independently and now self-corrects mistakes on the spot.

A Year 4 learner, once reluctant to participate in group problem-solving, confidently shared her method for finding the area of a triangular prism during their last session and explained each step to classmates.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Naremburn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cammeray Public School.
