Tutor should raise the confidence level in students by giving each and every child a chance to speak and answer in the class whether online or on-campus. The main motive of a tutor should be solving all the academic difficulties bothering students. I’ve tutored for almost 2 years, which made me proficient in both working and learning new things.…

I wholeheartedly believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Listen to how they like to learn and build a plan based around that. From that, Humility, Passion and Motivation follows, as not only is the student learning, but so are you. Therefore, building a good channel of communication with your student, both…

A tutor should not only help improve academic outcomes but also nurture a growth mindset. This means celebrating effort, progress, and resilience not just correct answers. Whether I'm helping a student prepare…

The most important thing is to understand the student, and let them learn calmly. It would only distract them if you put too much pressure on them so it’s important to be kind and give them time to think about the concept themselves too. Understanding their best way of learning is also really important and applying the concept to everyday…

A tutor must always be there for their students, support them through their struggles on a particular topic/subject. Inside CardiniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ruby focused on decimals—rounding, adding, and dividing—and then applied these skills to solve currency and discount problems.

For Year 8, Josh tackled algebraic equations using backtracking methods and practiced graphing straight lines by finding their equations from Cartesian plane diagrams.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Emily revised trigonometry concepts through homework questions and worksheets, before moving on to solving linear equations involving variables on both sides.

Recent Challenges

During Year 8 algebra and ratio work, Eugene often did not submit completed homework by the due date, making it difficult to address errors promptly.

In Year 10 trigonometry revision, written solutions were sometimes messy—steps and working became hard to follow, as noted: "It was tricky to check for calculation errors when workings weren't clearly laid out."

For a recent senior exam preparation session, Eugene relied heavily on his notes rather than attempting problems independently first. This meant less time spent building confidence in unfamiliar questions and more time retracing earlier steps.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Cardinia recently saw a few real learning shifts worth noting. In Year 10, Eugene moved from occasionally missing homework deadlines to now completing all assigned tasks on time and even scored full marks on recent linear equations assignments—this turnaround means class time is now focused on extending his skills instead of catching up.

A Year 11 student who used to avoid asking for help during sessions has started reaching out between lessons when stuck, leading to noticeably fewer repeated errors in her trigonometry work.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled with attention to detail began double-checking answers independently and caught her own mistakes during a mixed numbers exercise.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pakenham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cardinia Primary School.
