I think if I was a student I would want my tutor to be less intimidating and focus more on building my confidence, not only in the topics that is being but also to participate and join in the learning experience whether my answers are right or wrong. My strength as a tutor would be the breaking down of complex topics using example and relatable…

I think tutor should do everything for his or her students because after the parents only teacher is one person who can very closed for the student. Tutor should look after their students and if they have any bad habit then it's tutor responsibility to guide them in right direction and also inform their parents. Tutor can make hard subject into…

I think a tutor can bring out the inner talent of a student. Suppose a student who could not able to gain a good marks in exams or failing continuously, I will give that student mental support. I will give him or her motivation by telling that you can achieve anything in your life by doing hardworking. The most important thing is that a tutor can…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can provide a student is confidence. It is paramount that a tutor encourages the student to become intrinsically motivated to study and to cultivate a love for the subject, as this will allow the student to fully achieve their potential. Ensuring that a student has confidence and self belief can be just as…

Identifying the individual's strengths and weaknesses. I consider a tutor responsibility towards students is to be committed and flexible. The tutor should be with their student even if both have been going through the exam period. The tutor should never cancel on a lesson with a student for their own studies. As well, it is a must to be patient towards the student and be flexible as a tutor to learn…

A tutor has an important role in the life of the student and many things that a student learns from the tutor sets a standard for how the student will relate with his/her studies. I think that it's really important to be a good listener so that you can use feedback from students to improve your teaching. Not everyone learns in the same way so it's really important to work with each student to find the learning tehniques that work best for them. It's also important to recognise that each student could prefer different…

Inside CarlisleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ava practised multiplying and dividing mixed fractions, along with converting between decimals, percentages, and fractions.

In Year 8, Mia focused on factorising algebraic expressions and worked through simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas reviewed trigonometry by solving for unknown angles in right-angled triangles and revised the use of Pythagoras' theorem with practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Chemistry student found it challenging to identify unknowns during assessment prep, needing extra time to memorise her plan—she will also be memorising her plan for her assessment, noted the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student's incomplete notes on biology cycles meant confusion when revising key processes.

In Year 3 maths, messy working and reliance on blocks slowed progress in subtraction; skipping pen-and-paper practice made online lessons less effective for another student.

For a senior accounting task, overuse of the calculator hid gaps in understanding worded finance questions, leaving some answers unexplained during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Carlisle tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to get stuck on trigonometry now confidently chooses the right rule for finding unknown angles, needing far less prompting than before.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a student who was previously unsure about planning investigations can now lay out steps to identify unknowns and solve simple problems mostly unaided.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often guessed answers has started asking for help when needed—last session, she explained her thinking during a fractions task instead of staying quiet or rushing through mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carlisle Primary School.
