The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, assist students for high academics, while also creating a supportive learning environment. A tutor should also teach students individually at times and not simply providing answers. Ultimately, a tutor should aim to empower students to take ownership of their…

The most important thing I could do for a student is to work and adapt to the way that suits them, not all children understand concepts the same way and some need help in certain areas compared to others. This will be able to help me adapt to their learning strategies and make the tutoring most beneficial for the student. I am a committed tutor…

A tutor can enable students to grow academically, but also as individuals, through instilling a greater sense of confidence, initiative and proactiveness. Through effective teaching, tutors can allow students to connect with the power and excitement of learning, irrespective of their academic abilities. Generating a shared passion for education,…

A tutor's most important objective should be to help a student achieve their own personal goals. This dramatically builds confidence and quickly enables the student to excel further in the given subject. I am very understanding and patient and willing to strive towards a goal. I have personally been tutored by several individuals and have learnt…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to have the ability to cater to their needs and build self esteem, especially when one method of learning isn’t working. This not only allows for the student to understand concepts in other ways but also ensures and improves self esteem as often, students may fall behind from a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is modify lessons to suit the needs of the student and provide resources to ensure the student can succeed; whether that is getting ahead of class schedule or just answering questions that the student is struggling with. Hopefully building confidence and skill along the way. I am observantly…

A positive mindset to learning is the pivot to academic progress, and without enjoyment students will reach a mental plateau. High engagement with students also…

The most important things for a tutor to do for a student is to be patient, to be a support network for their learning, and to be open to criticism if the teaching style is not what the student wants. Of course, a tutor needs to be good at explaining the material but it is also important to use one’s own experience to give advise especially in…

Working with students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. In the math problems that I create, I incorporate references to these interests. It…

Inside Carss ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on graphing linear equations and finding the equation of a line using coordinates, practising both plotting and algebraic representation.

In Year 9, Liam worked through applications of Pythagoras' Theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems, reinforcing understanding with real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Max tackled complex addition and subtraction with larger numbers and began exploring foundational multiplication skills through step-by-step practice and targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra progress was held back by not reviewing classwork between sessions; as one tutor noted, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week."

In Year 6 maths, a student often forgot methods taught for long division and multiplication, especially when notes were misplaced or left incomplete.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, homework wasn't finished and new vocabulary wasn't practiced in sentences—leading to less confidence during spelling activities.

Inattentiveness and distraction during lessons also caused missed instructions in both primary maths and secondary English.

Recent Achievements

One Carss Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with chemistry calculations now solving titration questions accurately after just one practice session.

Another high schooler, previously anxious about timed writing tasks, recently wrote a full TEEL paragraph under time pressure and even volunteered to read it aloud—something she avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled to recall multiplication facts now completes smile-method long multiplication almost independently, correcting her own errors before being prompted and even choosing tougher questions for extra practice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blakehurst Public School.
