In my personal opinion and experience, having an informal connection with the student alongside being their tutor is extremely beneficial as they are able to clearly and more freely express their opinions related to studies and also helps the tutor in gaining insight into their learning styles. As a tutor, I utilize my leadership and communication…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build confidence while developing a genuine understanding of the subject, rather than simply memorising answers. A good tutor should identify each student's strengths and areas for improvement, personalise lessons to suit their needs, provide constructive feedback, and encourage…

In my opinion, the most important thing you can do as a tutor is to help your students build genuine confidence in their abilities. Often a major roadblock for students is their belief that they can't learn the subject, which can be overcome by celebrating progress and normalising making mistakes. One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to be…

It would be empathy, in my opinion. I am aware that there are intelligent people who are easily able to surpass me in knowledge, but I believe that to effectively teach and learn, one must have a sufficient level of empathy. One need not always be a great teacher to be a great intellect. My capacity for empathy is unmatched. I can put myself in…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to create an environment in which the pupil feels encouraged to ask questions. Without a certain degree of security or familiarity, most kids are too nervous or shy to ask questions and thus are left with a minimalistic understanding of a topic, instead of the deeper understanding they could gain by…

Then, my objective became to teach students how to learn properly: my aim was to assist them in finding their own way of studying and learning. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them realise the small learning mistakes commonly made that in my opinion are not useful further in life. Namely, learning my heart or just memorising to blurt out a concept without understanding its core only to score good grades. A Tutor should be able to make the student understand…

A good tutor should make sure that his/her student understands the essence and real life importance of the subject he/she is teaching. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make learning simple by building from a very strong foundation. The reason many students struggle with complex concepts is because their foundation is either weak or vague. My approach has always been to start with the basics, explain them in simple terms, and then gradually build…

Local Reviews

Deepti has been tutoring my son in Year 7. Deepti has developed an amazing rapport with my son and has inspired him emensely. His maths results for algebra have improved out of sight since having Deepti tutor him. Deepti is able to engage him and explain the rules and concepts and reinforce them through practice. Having been a teacher myself, I am very impressed with Deepti's skills and this has been reflected in my son's results. In addition his keenness in maths since having Deepti as his tutor is very impressive.

Inside CaulfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lisa worked on probability through coin toss experiments and tree diagrams, plus an introduction to Venn diagrams for visualising outcomes.

In Year 8, Parth tackled coordinate geometry by practising plotting points and finding intersections of lines using graphical methods.

For Year 10, Marcus focused on quadratic equations—using the discriminant, applying the quadratic formula, and completing the square—building problem-solving confidence with step-by-step worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student repeatedly relied on a calculator for simple calculations and missed signs in coordinate geometry when not listing knowns/unknowns. This made it harder to spot mistakes during review.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student arrived without their workbook or preparation notes, leaving them unable to attempt assigned statistics problems.

In Year 5, messy written working on fraction questions meant errors went unnoticed until the end—he guessed answers instead of showing steps, as noted by the tutor.

In each case, rushed or incomplete process habits left gaps that surfaced in class and homework time alike.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caulfield noted that a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly pinpointing mistakes and correcting them during sessions, showing real ownership of her learning.

In Year 11, another student made a breakthrough with finance questions: after struggling with graph-based problems before, he now tackles these independently and even writes clear, detailed answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who once rushed through number pattern tasks has begun breaking down questions step by step, reading each carefully before attempting an answer—finishing all the sequence terms accurately on her own this week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caulfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Montessori College - Caulfield South Campus.
