As a high school leaver, I consider providing support and trust as well as accurate academic knowledge to be the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student. Students do have teachers at school, therefore, the job of a tutor is to revise and trigger the knowledge of students, letting them realise their potential. I have physical and…

I think its most important to listen and consider your students by asking questions, attentively listening to their responses to determine if they have underlying misunderstandings or misconceptions about the material. By letting a student explain the topic in their own words, I can diagnose the issue and perhaps offer a new perspective on how I…

Tutoring is very different to a typical classroom setting. Each session is unique and solely focused on the one student. This one-to-one learning experience is something many students wouldn’t normally get in a classroom. Naturally, they’ll be able to ask as many questions as they want. As a result, I’ll feel I’m making a real difference…

Most important would definitely be effort towards a student. No student would want a tutor who does not have the best interest in them and would definitely not want a tutor who is giving 50% of their efforts. Another important thing a tutor can do for a student is show passion and that they care, and that they are someone the students can…

A tutor is a means of reassurance, while tutors aren't expected to be an all knowing textbook, students find reassurance knowing that someone with more knowledge and experience are within an arm's reach and are able to lend a hand. As a tutor, I will do my best to be a friendly source of aid that is almost always available. As a tutor I believe…

Listen, for a student to learn they ask questions and it’s important for a tutor to be able to listen and respond. I think my strengths are in my patience and empathy. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to enrich their understanding and reinvigorate or catalyze a passion in a particular subject. Nowadays, a student's passion for a particular subject dwindles as they go further and further into their high school career. This may be due to external factors such as pressure or…

I think the most important thing a tutor should do is educate student such that they enjoy learning new content. To do this, a tutor must deliver his knowledge in an engaging, enthusiastic way. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

Inside Chester HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alessandro worked on mastering division skills, including identifying divisibility rules for numbers like 2, 3, and 6, and also reviewed multiplication techniques to boost speed.

For Year 7, Maya revised operations with fractions—adding, multiplying, subtracting, and dividing them—as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Amir focused on algebraic laws and practiced applying index laws to simplify expressions ahead of his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student often guessed answers in multi-step word problems instead of carefully breaking down each part, leading to confusion about what was actually being asked.

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping clear working and struggling with the placement of denominators and numerators when adding fractions made it difficult to catch calculation errors or retrace steps for corrections.

As one tutor noted, "He struggles with knowing the next step," especially during long division tasks. This habit sometimes left unfinished workings on the page, making it hard to check progress or understand mistakes after moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Chester Hill tutor noted a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with negative numbers now confidently solves addition and subtraction problems on a timeline without prompting.

A Year 10 student, previously reliant on hints for algebraic expressions, recently tackled expanding and evaluating indices independently during the session.

In primary, a Year 4 learner who would guess answers in reading tasks has begun slowing down to carefully read each question first, leading to more accurate responses.

Last week, she finished all ten comprehension questions without any errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chester Hill Public School.
