Help them understand the topics and not only do the exercises proposed. When I tutor, I aim for enabling the student to face any kind of test their teacher poses to them and apply what they learned in many scenarios. I am patient and also persistent, in that I try to explain one topic in several different manners until the other student…

I think a tutor's role goes beyond simply offering solutions to problems; instead, they should steer students towards finding answers and ensure a solid grasp of the required steps. Additionally, adaptability is crucial, as teaching methods should be flexible to accommodate diverse learning styles. A tutor ought to be non-judgmental, patient, and…

Most important thing is to make the subject easy and interesting for the student. A student should feel confident after the topic is taught. I feel I have the knack of explaining the topic to a student in some of the most simple and easy ways to understand. I am able to identify the pain points of the student for a given topic, and I am able…

Every student is a unique equation, and as a tutor, I thrive on the thrill of cracking the code to each individual's learning style. It's not just about being enthusiastic; it's about being a learning chameleon, adapting colors and strategies to fit the distinctive needs of each student. I listen—really listen—to what they're looking for, and…

Firstly, the most important factor for a tutor is her/her knowledge in the field he/she is tutoring. I am proud that I have always tried so hard to learn as much as possible and got highest marks during my studies. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is actually pay attention to how a student is thinking, not just if they're getting the answer right or wrong. A lot of the time you can tell where the misunderstanding is just by the way they’re approaching a question. So being able to pick that up and respond in the moment is really…

I really fell that a tutor should be a friend and not like a teacher so that student can easily approach them with their silly doubt without any fear and clear their concept thoroughly. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. Inside Chester HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alessandro worked on mastering division skills, including identifying divisibility rules for numbers like 2, 3, and 6, and also reviewed multiplication techniques to boost speed.

For Year 7, Maya revised operations with fractions—adding, multiplying, subtracting, and dividing them—as well as converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Amir focused on algebraic laws and practiced applying index laws to simplify expressions ahead of his upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

A Year 6 student often guessed answers in multi-step word problems instead of carefully breaking down each part, leading to confusion about what was actually being asked.

In Year 8 mathematics, skipping clear working and struggling with the placement of denominators and numerators when adding fractions made it difficult to catch calculation errors or retrace steps for corrections.

As one tutor noted, "He struggles with knowing the next step," especially during long division tasks. This habit sometimes left unfinished workings on the page, making it hard to check progress or understand mistakes after moving on.

Recent Achievements

One Chester Hill tutor noted a Year 9 student who used to hesitate with negative numbers now confidently solves addition and subtraction problems on a timeline without prompting.

A Year 10 student, previously reliant on hints for algebraic expressions, recently tackled expanding and evaluating indices independently during the session.

In primary, a Year 4 learner who would guess answers in reading tasks has begun slowing down to carefully read each question first, leading to more accurate responses.

Last week, she finished all ten comprehension questions without any errors.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Chester Hill Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chester Hill Public School.
