Personally, the most important thing is that you get the students to actually understand the lessons and know what they are doing rather than just completing their works. I can stay back for extra time just to make they understand the lessons. ACHIEVEMENTS: HSC Mathematics: Band 6 in Mathematic Advanced High Band 5 in Mathematic Extension…

The most important I as a tutor can do is to accept that each student has a different way of learning and I should adapt and blend their teaching methods according to the student, there's no one size fits all method for everyone. I completed my schooling and bachelor's in engineering (Computer Science) from India and the education system in India…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student to be providing the student with the toolbox to be able to solve problems effectively in the chosen subject. In addition, a tutor can provide the student with confidence and belief in oneself, which helps the student academically, and in general. My strengths as a tutor include very…

The skill of empathy towards a student is possibly one of the most important things a tutor should be equipped with, in that they need to recognise that while you're an expert on the material, the student is learning it for the first time. Thus, tutors like myself need to be able to present concepts that the student can understand, i.e., using…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help students build the confidence and skills to learn independently. A tutor's role isn't only to explain concepts, but also to equip students with the strategies and mindset to approach new material independently. By guiding them to understand the basics deeply and think critically, tutors can…

Make them feel like asking questions is normal, not embarrassing. A lot of students already know what they don't understand , they just need a space where it's safe to say it out loud. Beyond that, I focus on building independent thinking rather than just drilling answers, so students can handle questions they haven't seen before when it counts. I…

I think it is important to understand each students requirements and aptitude. Same teaching techniques cannot be applied to everyone. So a teacher has to be mature and experienced enough to help students. I have a strong connection with academia, so I understand students' needs well. The most important things a tutor can do is provide a support network and assistance for the students both in and outside of academics. The tutor must understand the student. Some students try really hard to learn but may fail to show successful results. The tutor must understand this, assure the student that he/she is making progress, and guide the student every inch of the way. Second, the tutor must consider the pursuits of the students as his/her own personal endeavor as…

The most important thing a teacher can teach a student is something about how they learn best, like what techniques, environements, etc. they need to learn effectively. This is not only a skill that will help them any time they need to learn something in the future, but also something that will help them enjoy the process. I think I have excellent…

Inside Clemton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and previewed long division, while also working on understanding maths in word problems through homework tasks.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on factorising quadratic equations and revising how to use the quadratic formula to solve them, including discussing what "roots" mean for parabolas.

Year 9 student Sarah worked on manipulating linear equations by making a variable the subject and used tables and graphs to explore relationships between variables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided writing working for long division, preferring mental methods; this led to mistakes he couldn't check or fix—"He needs more practice to ensure he follows the new method instead of depending on his older method."

In Year 11 trigonometry, a tendency to regurgitate formulas without showing process meant errors went unnoticed.

For a Year 3 student, skipping homework and resisting new ways of setting out sums blocked progress with fractions.

Another in Year 7 hesitated to ask questions during algebra revision, missing feedback that would have clarified misconceptions and built confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Clemton Park tutor noticed a big change in Willa, a high school student who used to get stuck on wordy maths problems—she now asks questions when unsure and recently solved several tricky ones on her own using new strategies.

Cooper, also in high school, shifted from waiting for hints to actively looking for solutions and tackling quadratic equations with much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously needed help reading longer passages managed to read an entire book out loud solo this week, only stumbling over a couple of words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley North Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clemton Park Public School.
