The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel comfortable and to help them feel like learning is not a chore but a good experience. Being positive, patient and encouraging is also a very important trait for a tutor. I have a lot of experience in nannying/babysitting so, therefore, have the ability to effectively…

As a tutor, you want students to excel both academically and personally and offering tools and providing consistent positive reinforcement will aide this. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student build confidence and reduce their stress around a subject. Explaining the material matters, but the real impact comes from helping students believe they can understand and succeed. I’ve had students tell me they no longer panic when they don’t understand something in class…

I think the most important thing s tutor can do for a student is explain the content well allowing for them to understand. This means not handing the answers to them on a silver platter, I believe that doing this has no help to the students. In order to be an efficient Tudor one must go through all the steps of the content. I like to think that I…

In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is instill a love of learning within them. If a student enjoys learning and wants to learn, they will thrive. A big strength for me is being able to simplify complex ideas into simple, digestible information. I am patient, friendly and encouraging. I always get my students to try…

I believe that tutors must be role models for their students, both academically and in general circumstances. Being punctual, strong communication and a hard work ethic are all apart of these characteristics that make up a good role model for a student. Aside from being academically strong, tutors must also be able to understand their tutees…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop confidence. Students can often be reluctant to try when they are lacking in confidence. Tutors should foster a positive, can-do attitude from the beginning which encourages and enables students. It is also important that a tutor focuses on the student’s…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is believe in them and their abilities. For many students it is often their lack of belief in themselves that holds them back from fully trying to understand the topic. Building this and building their confidence is key. It is important for tutors to listen to their students. Positivity relationships must be developed between students and tutors, using patience and trust. It is important to be open to all learning styles and to plan accordingly. If a tutor can adapt their teaching to their individual student, engaging learning will take place. I am patient. It is…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student’s confidence and foster independent learning skills. It’s crucial not only to help with immediate challenges but also to teach strategies that empower students to tackle future problems on their own. A tutor should create a safe, supportive environment where questions…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their understanding, confidence, and independence. Providing regular feedback and being organised by establishing clear goals for the student to aim for. Inside ClovellyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Oliver focused on converting between decimals and fractions as well as simplifying mixed and improper fractions.

For Year 9, Ava worked through compound interest calculations and compared simple versus compound investments using value tables.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Jack tackled factorisation methods in algebra along with more complex problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions by applying factorisation strategies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student tackling trigonometry found multi-step sine and cosine rule questions challenging when working alone; the tutor noted, "he needed guidance to find relevant angles," revealing a struggle to persist through complex problems without support.

In Year 11 Maths, worded income tax and commission problems proved overwhelming—questions with dense text led to missed steps and confusion.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student's written work remained difficult to follow due to unorganized note-taking in probability tasks: "notes were scattered across the page."

Not putting pen to paper during homework left gaps that made it tough for tutors to pinpoint sources of confusion.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Clovelly noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid asking for help now openly requests clarification when stuck, especially with factorisation questions—an important shift from silent guessing.

In Year 11, one student recently corrected their own homework errors after carefully reviewing feedback, showing genuine independence that wasn't there before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who had struggled with long division earlier in the year has begun explaining solution steps out loud while working through problems and now completes them confidently without guidance. Last session, they finished an entire worksheet alone.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Randwick Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Anthony's Catholic Primary School.
