Building a relationship and rapport with the student is vital for success in tutoring, it can be difficult for students to ask for help and accept it once given it, so making a student feel comfortable is the best strategy for ensuring success. I have a innovative and intuitive way of approaching problems and challenges and am confident expressing…

It is important as a tutor to understand that everyone learns at a different pace and therefore it is integral to treat every student as an individual. The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to help them to understand problems and have strong basic knowledge. Therefore, they can do their homework without a tutor or teacher to ask. I have a lot of patients to work through problems with others. I can say a word in the easiest way to help others to understand. If my friend has a…

Tutors should personalise their teaching for each of their students. This involves understanding how a student learns best in order to cater to their learning needs and habits. For example, I find that some students prefer particular types of examples over others, and this informs me about how I can best explain new concepts to them. I've tutored…

A tutor should listen carefully, understand what the student already knows, and build on that foundation. Creating an open environment where students feel comfortable explaining their…

Become a role model and help inspire them to become the best version of themselves. I want to be someone who can help them expand their horizon for learning. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is believe in them and their abilities. When a student can see that someone truly believes in them, they can start to believe in themselves too. Regardless of their initial ability, once a student begins to believe in themself they will feel more confident to try more or try new things to…

To me the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to be compassionate, dedicated, understanding and patient. We need to be able to relate to how the students feels to truly be able to guide them at their own pace of learning. Being impatient and giving up on students will only lower the motivation and self-confidence of the student,…

A tutor must make sure that the student understand the course material, while making the class enjoyable at the same time. It is also essential for a tutor to give students practice questions / past paper questions to help them familiarize with the exam format, and having an answer discussion afterwards. As a tutor, I think it's important to be there for them. Learning loads of new concepts almost every second day can be overwhelming and with that, all students have their strengths and weaknesses. Thus as a tutor it would be a good measure to know their strengths and weaknesses and work with them through their weaknesses and add them to the list…

We are very happy with our experience so far. It was simple to arrange and there was no problem finding a tutor available at the time we needed. We chose EzyMath tutoring as it was the only company that didn't send endless texts and emails to get us to sign up. The tutor arrived on time and kept my daughter engaged on maths the entire hour. Although she doesn't love maths (yet) the look of pride on her face after each session has been amazing.

Inside CoburgTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised addition and subtraction using a number line, and worked through NAPLAN-style word problems.

In Year 10, Jasmine focused on solving and rearranging algebraic equations as well as revising linear equations in preparation for her test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emmanuel explored circular functions—graphing sine and cosine—and tackled trigonometric equations to prepare for his upcoming CAT assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student became overwhelmed when facing unfamiliar algebra problems and tended to freeze rather than attempt different strategies, as noted: "He easily gets overwhelmed when faced with an unfamiliar problem."

In Year 11 calculus, skipping careful reading of questions led to repeated errors during CATs; one tutor observed he "needed to read the question more carefully."

Meanwhile, a primary student working on subtraction sometimes forgot to borrow but quickly improved once reminded.

For a Year 8 student, untidy written work in dividing polynomials meant errors went unnoticed until final checks.

These moments often left students frustrated or second-guessing themselves mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Coburg recently noticed Emmanuel, a Year 12 student, tackling complex numbers for the first time—a notoriously tricky topic—but he managed to grasp key ideas right away after struggling with similar advanced material last term.

Yvonne, also in high school, has shifted from relying on hints to independently placing angles and finding reference angles on the unit circle during calculus sessions.

Meanwhile, Jett in primary school explained multi-digit subtraction using an algorithm out loud—something he was hesitant to do before—and now confidently checks his own answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islamic College of Sport.
