The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is teach them how to teach themselves. While teaching the area of study is a crucial part of tutoring I believe that it's even more important for students to learn how to study at home, in a way that helps them retain the information and is also tailored to their preferred learning style. I…

Supporting students through a stressful period of their life is one of the most important roles of a tutor, you need to be there mentor but especially their friend. It's important to build the students confidence by giving them the tools to understand complex problems rather than by giving them the answers. I am friendly and approachable, and can…

A tutor provides a student with the platform to perform at their highest academic potential. This is achieved by ensuring a student has an adequate understanding of key concepts and the targeted material to practice those concepts in an exam environment. The important difference between a tutor and a teacher is that a student gives a student the…

Rather than provide a mass amount of information, the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is instil a sense of confidence and interest in the subject. Personally the experiences that I have taken with me from systems of education have been how applicable the framework of learning is to other facets of the reasoning process.…

Beyond simply helping a student improve their grades, I believe a tutor should aim to further engage their students in their learning and to actively enjoy school. It's one thing to explain to a student how to approach concepts and assessment tasks, but to actively encourage them to love school is something that separates a good tutor from a…

A tutor should focus on empowering the student, rather than simply teaching the content to them, so that when the tutor is not present, the student is still able to motivate themselves and have confidence in their ability without having someone to rely on. I feel the most important thing for any tutor is to be able to communicate with its student effectively. A tutor should not make an assumption that just because students do not have any questions, they are understanding the topic. It is important to go around the class and ask questions individually to check on the understanding. Teaching has…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is to be available for them, not just during tutoring sessions. For a student, the most essential thing a tutor can do is imparting complete knowledge as half knowledge is dangerous. So, when a child is fully aware of something, he can be confident enough to explore more beyond his imagination. A tutor must be resilient enough to teach students in the best way. Local Reviews

We are very happy with our experience so far. It was simple to arrange and there was no problem finding a tutor available at the time we needed. We chose EzyMath tutoring as it was the only company that didn't send endless texts and emails to get us to sign up. The tutor arrived on time and kept my daughter engaged on maths the entire hour. Although she doesn't love maths (yet) the look of pride on her face after each session has been amazing.

Inside CoburgTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ava practised addition and subtraction using a number line, and worked through NAPLAN-style word problems.

In Year 10, Jasmine focused on solving and rearranging algebraic equations as well as revising linear equations in preparation for her test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Emmanuel explored circular functions—graphing sine and cosine—and tackled trigonometric equations to prepare for his upcoming CAT assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student became overwhelmed when facing unfamiliar algebra problems and tended to freeze rather than attempt different strategies, as noted: "He easily gets overwhelmed when faced with an unfamiliar problem."

In Year 11 calculus, skipping careful reading of questions led to repeated errors during CATs; one tutor observed he "needed to read the question more carefully."

Meanwhile, a primary student working on subtraction sometimes forgot to borrow but quickly improved once reminded.

For a Year 8 student, untidy written work in dividing polynomials meant errors went unnoticed until final checks.

These moments often left students frustrated or second-guessing themselves mid-task.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Coburg recently noticed Emmanuel, a Year 12 student, tackling complex numbers for the first time—a notoriously tricky topic—but he managed to grasp key ideas right away after struggling with similar advanced material last term.

Yvonne, also in high school, has shifted from relying on hints to independently placing angles and finding reference angles on the unit circle during calculus sessions.

Meanwhile, Jett in primary school explained multi-digit subtraction using an algorithm out loud—something he was hesitant to do before—and now confidently checks his own answers without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbell-Turnbull Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Islamic College of Sport.
