The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen, understand and be patient. I believe it is vital for tutors to listen to their students in order to communicate to them effectively and target their weaknesses. Every student has different learning styles and the pace at which they learn, by understanding this, students are able…

I believe that tutors need to help students feel confident in their ability. When a student feels more confident in their work they will be able to see more clearly their potential and this will help them perform better in their assessments. Tutors need to be supportive of students and encourage them to work hard, not do all their work for them.…

I believe it's essential to go beyond memorisation and repetitions. I encourage students to think critically, analyse information, and solve problems independently. This provides them with the skills they need to succeed not only in academics but also in life. I can adapt my teaching style to each student's individual learning needs and preferred…

Growth - It's not just about academic success, it's about the idea that, as a Tutor, it's your duty to make sure the students grow in their chosen subject. This involves understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses, their willingness to work hard and have fun, and enjoyment in the topic. Genuineness and Inspiration - A student can…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient and remember that everyone learns at their own pace, in their own way. Tutors can provide practice papers, positive feedback, ways of improving to the student. The aim is to not make the student feel as if they are unable to achieve the goal, but to allow them to…

I believe a tutor should go out of their way to make sure the student understands the content, rather than teach the general content and move on, because the students and their learning are the priority in my opinion. My strengths are that I can keep calm especially in stressful situations, and by growing up with a little brother and cousins, I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. Inside Connells PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 Grace reviewed equivalent fractions and practised converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages using her homework tasks.

For Year 11 Olivia, the focus was on algebraic techniques including simplifying expressions and preparing for more advanced year 8 material through challenging problems.

Meanwhile, Aimee in Year 10 worked on mastering indices with targeted revision before her test, followed by a start on key algebra topics from her upcoming assessment chapters.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student, preparing for exams, was observed practicing questions under timed and closed-book conditions; however, she had not completed the assigned homework, which limited feedback on weaker topics.

In Year 9 algebra sessions, a student repeatedly avoided writing full working due to anxiety about errors—leading to confusion in multi-step equations and less effective revision.

For a primary student in Year 5, switching from grid to lined paper was overlooked despite being necessary for the exam format.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 English learner arrived without required notes, making it difficult to apply language techniques in assessment preparation.

Recent Achievements

One Connells Point tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 biology student, who moved from just reviewing content to actively structuring exam answers and asking for clarification on tricky topics—something she used to avoid.

In maths, a Year 10 student started choosing when to use the sine or cosine rule on her own, rather than waiting for prompts, showing real independence compared to earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who previously hesitated with fractions was able to simplify and find equivalent fractions without support by the end of her lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oatley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Connells Point Public School.
