To acknowledge development and passion and help the student grow in a direction that they deem appropriate. It is important to get to know the student and their aspirations in order to achieve this. Tolerant, disciplined and determined. I take the time to help the student learn without bombarding them with excessive amounts of material. This is an…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to firstly be patient. It is important to match the students' pace especially in the first few interactions as earning their trust will go a long way in facilitating the teaching process. It is also vital to build the confidence of the students in order to help them overcome their mental…

I think simply put a tutor should give a student confidence that they can learn anything that is presented to them. It might take a different approach than they initially thought of but my job is to show them these different approaches. I am aware that it is sometimes extremely difficult to understand information when it is presented in only one…

As a tutor, it is your obligation to teach in a way that your pupil develops a passion for the topic he is learning. There is nothing worst than somebody who is bored while learning. Focusing on deeply understanding and on practical application is key to awaken a desire to continue learning. "If you can't explain it to a six year old, you don't…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

I think building a students confidence is the most important part of teaching. By introducing them to methods they can use to problem solve for themselves, a whole world opens up for them. I will provide a structured approach to teaching these methods and support them as they put them into action. I am a calm and patient tutor who is passionate…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, are not only concrete plans and a sufficient level of knowledge, but also empathy to understand what the student needs and their natural ability. A tutor, in my opinion, is not someone who places a high level of math practise in the hands of an art student who dislikes math. A…

The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to inspire confidence and a love for learning. Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Encouragement and being able to explain concepts in a digestible manner are what makes a good tutor, but a great tutor checks in on students to make sure that they are thriving. It takes courage and self-reflection to find a tutor in the first place, so the least a tutor can do is make sure to give the tools for a student to make it on their…

Inside DaceyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Despina worked on understanding the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes, along with practicing perimeter calculations.

Year 8 student Michael focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and applying the Pythagoras theorem to geometry problems, using visual examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophia tackled chemistry syllabus content by reviewing electron configurations (spdf notation) and exploring trends in periodicity, including atomic radius and first ionisation energy.

Recent Challenges

Frequent reliance on calculators for basic operations, such as times tables and simple addition, made it harder for the Year 9 student to build fluency in index laws ("less use of calculator and a more thorough understanding and memorisation of times tables…").

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete memorization of polyatomic ions led to slower progress during ionic equation tasks.

For a Year 5 lesson, one student jumped quickly to answers without fully writing out working or reflecting on key phrases from questions, which meant missed details when reading texts.

During a senior selective-style test, another student struggled with time management and needed extra practice under timed conditions—she finished late and felt frustrated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daceyville recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebra, began working through examples independently and now occasionally solves problems without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student showed new initiative by finishing a research task on her own, whereas before she needed frequent reminders to stay on track.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started reading out loud more confidently during comprehension activities and now actively eliminates incorrect answers instead of guessing.

Last week, a high schooler completed her science report on time for the first time this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Catholic Primary School.
