I believe in teaching the students skills more than information. The saying goes, if you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime, which is very close to my heart. I want my students to understand the problem and critically think about solutions rather than trying to copy-paste from memory.…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

A tutor’s most important role is to empower the student to become an independent learner. This involves not only clarifying difficult concepts but also teaching effective study strategies, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving techniques. A tutor should create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where students feel comfortable…

I believe the most important qualities of an effective tutor are: Approachability – It’s essential that students feel comfortable enough to ask questions without fear of judgment. Creating a safe and welcoming environment is the first step to meaningful learning. Creativity and adaptability – Every student learns differently, so it’s…

Adapting to the student's learning style/preference (if the student is a visual learner, create pictures)/ If the student prefers a repetition of similar problem, create more problems for the students). This is very important as every student is different. I have experiences in classroom where I taught multiple students at once (Edu-kingdom)…

I think building a students confidence is the most important part of teaching. By introducing them to methods they can use to problem solve for themselves, a whole world opens up for them. I will provide a structured approach to teaching these methods and support them as they put them into action. I am a calm and patient tutor who is passionate…

With a strong foundational understanding the students can be more confident and creative in their application in the concepts. I have two main strengths as a tutor. First, I bring a very strong working knowledge of the…

Identifying the best technique to teach the student is the best thing a tutor can do. Students learn much faster when they are taught according to their methods of learning. Identifying the right technique to teach will lead to the student identifying the perfect technique to study in the presence or absence of a tutor. I have had enough…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is allow the student to see that they are so much more than their grades, but also giving them the tools they need to succeed academically, because at the end of the day, their grades will play a big part in the options they will have for future studies. I feel my biggest strength would be my…

I believe that the tutor shouldn't be the one always in control and leading the session. Especially in early sessions, I believe the tutor should encourage the student to ask many questions of them, to grasp what they know and how they interpret different topics. Tutoring almost becomes useless if the tutor is the one constantly talking because…

Among the most important things a tutor can do for a student is that a tutor must be able to understand a student's learning style so that the student would be able to learn the material in a way that is analogous to their mode of synthesising knowledge. A tutor must do this all the while being open and kind and most especially warm towards the…

It is so important for tutors to adapt their method of teaching to the way the student learns. Every student not only has different needs and difficulties, but learns concepts differently. To me, a tutor must be able to effectively communicate ideas to students in a manner that allows them to understand the concept. Local Reviews

I needed a sensitive, switched on tutor that would enthuse & engage my 9 yr old who was extremely resistant to the process. Liaising with ezymaths was easy & smooth. The tutor recommended has been wonderful. In a short period of just a few months, my daughter's proficiency as well as confidence has grown significantly & this is substantiated by her school teacher as well. I would recommend this service definitely.

Inside Dover HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Olivia focused on addition and subtraction of large numbers as well as introductory statistics questions, using Mathletics practice to build confidence.

For Year 10, Lukas worked through a range of simultaneous equations and also practiced finding the equation of a line from parallel and perpendicular lines to prepare for upcoming assessments.

In Year 11, Alex reviewed fractional indices and binomial products, then tackled exponential equations and rationalising derivatives with support from targeted worksheets and textbook problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11, one student repeatedly arrived unprepared, forgetting past papers and missing key revision materials; as noted, "he did not bring the past papers that I had previously given him." This disrupted lesson flow and meant less time was spent on practice with True Bearings or Financial Math.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student often lost focus during multiplication drills and grew frustrated when unsure of next steps—leaving gaps in basic numeracy that lingered into later sessions.

In primary years, one child hesitated to tackle challenging questions out of low confidence, which led to avoiding essential practice with time-based problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Dover Heights noticed a big shift with Oliver (Year 11), who started identifying his own weak spots in algebra and, after some targeted practice, was able to complete previously challenging questions independently.

In Year 9, Taiaroa showed new persistence: though he struggled at first with fractions and percentages, by the end of the session he could convert between decimals and fractions without prompting.

Meanwhile, Ruby (Year 4) moved past her earlier hesitation with number patterns—she now recognises them confidently and remembered most of her timetables during their latest session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kesser Torah College.
