I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to prioritise understanding; simply memorising concepts may suffice, however I believe properly understanding the subject of inquiry is most beneficial as it allows students to fully comprehend and link concepts together, boosting their performance, rather than just knowing what to…

Some of the most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are to boost their self-esteem, adjust to their preferred method of learning, and simplify difficult ideas. In addition to encouraging critical thinking and offering concise explanations, a tutor should foster a safe space where students feel free to make mistakes and ask questions. My…

According to me, a tutor can help his student improve and be a stepping stone in achieving his goals . A tutor can make his student be a better person , and can inculcate the genuine love of learning and knowledge and showing others what it looks like to be passionate about his future. Sharing knowledge with the students is the main thing but…

Be empathetic as well as listen slowly and carefully to the reason people are having one or a few issues. Then repeat the issues back to them so they know where the hiccup lies. Allow the person to reach the solution themselves will mean they understand the topic in depth and now have the empowerment to tackle the next issue with more…

The most important thing a tutor can do is not only to support a student but to make them feel as though they have accomplished what they set out to achieve, even if it is a small goal, as long as it gets fulfilled. I believe that I can personalise the amount of help I provide to a student, no matter their abilities. This will allow me to ensure…

The most important thing a tutor could do is to understand the student they are teaching. Not all students are the same and their needs aren't either. So knowing them can help the student grow in their studies. I am currently studying a Bachelors of Education (Secondary) and Bachelors of Science, as such I have both the theoretical knowledge of…

The tutor needs to make sure that all the questions of the student are answered really well. Most importantly, the tutor needs to be a role model for the student. In my opinion, the most important quality of a tutor is flexibility. While the concepts are the same, our teaching methods, the way we deliver it to each students differs. We need to cater for each student's need and ability. The ultimate goal is to inspire the students and initiate them to challenge themselves. Since I've once struggled with…

I believe that there are two crucial things that tutors can and should do for students. Firstly, each tutor should present the rationale and the logic while explaining new concepts to students rather than make them memorize and automatically follow the rules or steps. Students should understand what they do and that is the responsibility of…

Very impressed with prompt response to my inquiry and matching the tutoring with student's needs was perfectly achieved. Thank you
Amita, Eaglemont

Inside EaglemontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Mitch focused on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, working through practical examples for clarity.

Year 10 student Olivia reviewed scatterplots and Pearson's correlation coefficient in preparation for an upcoming general maths assessment, including hands-on calculator skills practice.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah explored chemical bonding by distinguishing between covalent, ionic, and hydrogen bonds and determining polarity using real compound examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 maths, Elena often tried to solve division and multiplication questions in her head or all at once, avoiding written steps. As a tutor observed, "she submitted homework without showing working out," which made it difficult to track where errors crept in.

For Year 10 English, Mitch missed the short story deadline over the break; this meant lesson time was spent catching up rather than exploring new writing strategies.

During senior chemistry revision, one student forgot to bring prepared flashcards for different bond types, so class time shifted from review to last-minute note-making instead of deeper comparison work.

Recent Achievements

One Eaglemont tutor noticed a real shift with Mitch, a Year 10 student who used to hesitate when asked about literary techniques—last week, he quickly spotted metaphors and alliteration in a poem and even linked them to the mood of the text without prompting.

In chemistry, another high schooler managed to distinguish between polar and nonpolar molecules independently after previously mixing up the concepts, now able to explain each stage in her own words.

Meanwhile, Felix in Year 5 showed new initiative by tackling division problems he'd struggled with before, solving several tough examples on his own during class.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Mercy College.
